Job Overview:
The consultancy aims to develop a comprehensive Situational Analysis of Older Persons in Belize, focusing on their demographic, social, economic, and health status. The consultant will be expected to provide evidence-based recommendations for public policies and social protection frameworks that cater to the needs of older persons. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government ministries and civil society organizations, to ensure a thorough understanding of the current situation and to facilitate the collection of relevant data. The consultant will engage in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, ensuring that the analysis is robust and actionable.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key activities, including: reviewing and summarizing national censuses, household surveys, and existing policies relevant to aging; assessing data gaps and quality concerning older persons; designing and administering primary data collection instruments; conducting data analyses; proposing feasible recommendations; facilitating consultations and engagements with stakeholders; and drafting briefing notes and final analytical reports. The consultant will also be responsible for managing the overall project timeline and ensuring that all deliverables are met within the specified period.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess an advanced degree in Demography, Population Studies, Gerontology, Sociology, or related Social Sciences. Additionally, the consultant must have at least 5 years of professional experience in social science research, particularly in conducting situational analyses and assessments of vulnerable groups. A strong understanding of the social and policy environment in Belize and the Caribbean is essential, along with proven abilities in evidence-based analysis and stakeholder engagement.
Educational Background:
Candidates must hold an advanced degree in a relevant field such as Demography, Population Studies, Gerontology, Sociology, or other related Social Sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of aging and the socio-economic factors affecting older persons in Belize.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required, particularly in professional social science research. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in conducting situational analyses, assessments of vulnerable groups, or policy analysis. Experience in managing multi-stakeholder consultations and delivering high-quality reports under tight deadlines is also essential.
Languages:
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN language or a local language of the duty station is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.
