Job Overview:
The position of Mentor for Interns in Monitoring and Evaluation at UNFPA Burundi is designed to provide guidance and support to interns as they navigate their roles within the organization. The mentor will play a crucial role in helping interns understand the operations of UNFPA, particularly in the area of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). This role is part of a broader initiative to enhance the professional skills of young individuals through a structured internship program. The mentor will assist interns in developing their competencies in data management, analysis, and the application of quality data in decision-making processes related to reproductive health and gender-based violence. The mentor will also facilitate the interns' participation in various program activities, ensuring they gain practical experience and insights into the workings of the UN system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The mentor's responsibilities include:

• Assisting interns in familiarizing themselves with UNFPA's work in Burundi, particularly in Monitoring and Evaluation.
• Supporting the establishment of an integrated database for tracking the implementation of the 9th program.
• Aiding in the analysis of disaggregated and geo-referenced data related to population health, maternal health, family planning, adolescent health, and gender-based violence prevention.
• Participating in program implementation activities, including organizing workshops, seminars, conferences, and meetings.
• Contributing to the design or updating of M&E tools.
• Engaging in training and capacity-building activities in the field of M&E.
• Assisting in the preparation and reporting of activities and workshops.
• Monitoring indicators and performance recommendations for projects.
• Contributing to the organization of surveys, evaluations, and field studies. 1
• Providing support in other areas of intervention as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the mentor position should possess strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. They should demonstrate a commitment to the values of UNFPA, including respect for diversity and a focus on results. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to mentor and guide interns effectively.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, statistics, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it would provide a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in reproductive health and gender issues.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian work. Experience working with youth and in capacity-building initiatives is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the UN system and its operations.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Burundi. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and resources. Knowledge of Kirundi is an asset, as it enhances engagement with local communities.
