Job Overview:
In the role of Advocacy Specialist, you will play a crucial part in implementing DRC Ukraine's advocacy strategy and fulfilling existing commitments. Your contributions will include evidence-based advocacy, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and the creation of advocacy products. You will collaborate closely with program teams, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) colleagues, and communications staff to ensure that the perspectives and needs of displaced and conflict-affected populations are central to DRC's advocacy efforts. Duties and Responsibilities:
Your primary duties will include supporting the development and implementation of DRC Ukraine's advocacy strategy and annual workplan, monitoring relevant political and humanitarian developments, conducting policy and context analysis, and drafting advocacy materials such as briefing notes, policy briefs, and reports. You will also contribute to the preparation of advocacy inputs for meetings and engagements with donors and senior management, maintain an overview of national legislation and policies affecting displaced populations, and support the development of advocacy indicators. Additionally, you will coordinate with technical and field teams to ensure that advocacy efforts are evidence-based and aligned with DRC's program work, liaise with the communications team for consistent messaging, and participate in humanitarian coordination mechanisms and policy discussions. Building and maintaining relationships with humanitarian partners and civil society organizations will also be a key aspect of your role, as will ensuring the meaningful inclusion of affected populations' perspectives in advocacy activities.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must possess a Master's degree in political science, international relations, law, human rights, public policy, humanitarian studies, or a related field. You should have at least three years of professional experience in advocacy, humanitarian policy, protection, human rights, research, or related fields. Strong analytical skills are essential, along with demonstrated experience in conducting policy, legal, or context analysis. Excellent drafting skills are required, enabling you to produce clear, concise, and evidence-based advocacy and policy documents in English. A solid understanding of humanitarian principles, protection, international humanitarian law, human rights, and displacement issues is necessary, as is familiarity with Ukraine's humanitarian and political context. You should also possess strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as political science, international relations, law, human rights, public policy, or humanitarian studies. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of advocacy and policy work in humanitarian contexts, particularly in relation to the protection of displaced populations and the legal frameworks governing their rights.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in advocacy, humanitarian policy, protection, human rights, research, or related fields. This experience should ideally include supporting advocacy efforts, policy development, and humanitarian programming in complex humanitarian or development contexts. Familiarity with the challenges and dynamics of working in such environments is essential for success in this role.
Languages:
Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English and Ukrainian is mandatory for this position. This linguistic capability is crucial for effective communication and advocacy efforts, as well as for engaging with diverse stakeholders in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.
Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is initially for 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability after a successful three-month probationary period. The position is classified as Band G.2, which is non-managerial. The designated duty station is Kyiv, with regular travel to field offices within Ukraine. The start date for this position is as soon as possible, and the salary will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council's Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts, starting from EUR 2,574 gross per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
