Job Overview:
The Driver position at the Danish Refugee Council involves driving DRC staff and transporting assets and equipment safely and reliably. The role requires maintaining the safety and operational condition of the DRC vehicle used for transportation. The driver is responsible for ensuring that all trips are conducted in accordance with safety regulations and that the vehicle is kept in good condition. This includes performing regular checks on the vehicle, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring that it is fueled and ready for use. The driver will also assist passengers with loading and unloading their belongings and must keep a detailed log of all trips, including passenger signatures. The position requires a commitment to representing DRC professionally and respectfully when interacting with local authorities and community members. The driver must adhere to national driving laws and demonstrate punctuality and respect for rules and procedures. This role is crucial in supporting DRC's mission to provide humanitarian assistance and ensure the safety of its personnel during operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver is responsible for a variety of tasks, including: transporting authorized DRC personnel and cargo to designated locations, collecting materials from projects and suppliers, ensuring the vehicle is always at least half full of fuel and refueling when necessary, maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and out, performing general checks on the vehicle's condition (including engine oil, brake oil, tire pressure, and other fluids), filling out the vehicle logbook accurately and ensuring passenger signatures for each trip, conducting physical inspections of DRC-rented vehicles as requested by the fleet manager, assisting with procurement and supply requisitions for office and project equipment, and delivering goods to and from project sites. The driver must implement all duties in line with the DRC Code of Conduct and represent the organization in a professional manner. Additionally, the driver is expected to respect national driving laws and maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding work-related information.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Driver position must possess the following qualifications: a minimum of 5 years of proven driving experience in a similar role, preferably with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) or UN agencies. Candidates should have knowledge of the local area and technical expertise in basic vehicle repairs. Punctuality and adherence to rules and procedures are essential, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding work-related information. Knowledge of logistics and procurement processes is also beneficial. Fluency in the local language is mandatory, and proficiency in English is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for the Driver position include a secondary school certificate as a minimum. A technical diploma is preferred, while a degree in a relevant field is desired. This educational background ensures that candidates have the foundational knowledge necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 5 years of relevant driving experience, particularly in roles similar to that of a driver for humanitarian organizations. Previous experience working with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and UN agencies is highly preferred, as it indicates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations in such environments. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong understanding of local driving laws and regulations, as well as the ability to navigate the local area effectively.

Languages:
For this position, fluency in the local language is mandatory, as it is essential for effective communication with passengers and local authorities. The Driver position is a non-management role based in Damascus, Syria, with a contract length of one year, subject to extension based on performance and available funding. The expected start date for this position is September 15, 202
