Job Overview:
The Associate IT Software Engineer position at the EIB is a full-time role based in Luxembourg, focusing on the development and delivery of bespoke lending applications that are integral to the bank's core business operations. This role requires regular office presence and involves coordinating with external development partners to ensure high-quality delivery that aligns with the bank's standards. The position is pivotal in equipping the Bespoke Lending Applications Unit with solid software development knowledge to support various business initiatives. The engineer will report directly to the Head of Unit and collaborate closely with project managers and other IT units, proposing and designing technical solutions that meet business requirements while adhering to the IT architecture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate IT Software Engineer include providing input in the strategy and policy development for the bank's IT technology and infrastructure, assessing the impact of changes to the IT architectural landscape, and advising stakeholders accordingly. The engineer will implement necessary IT processes, procedures, standards, and control systems to monitor and improve the quality of information and solutions. Acting as a subject matter expert, the engineer will lead technical aspects of projects, define IT project designs, and coordinate the delivery of activities among assigned team members, primarily external staff. Responsibilities also include reviewing technical solutions proposed by junior staff, coaching less experienced colleagues, and promoting compliance with relevant IT policies. The engineer will stay updated on industry trends and actively participate in conferences and knowledge-sharing activities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline. A minimum of three years of relevant IT professional experience is required, including at least two years as a Java developer, with a year of experience in software architecture design using J2EE or Spring Boot framework. Experience as a JavaScript developer, particularly with the React.js library, is also necessary. Knowledge in designing logical and physical database models, especially with Oracle databases, is essential. Familiarity with Kafka, data virtualization, and integration services is considered a plus. In-depth knowledge of technologies such as Spring Boot, JBoss EAP, Hibernate, and REST API design is advantageous. Experience with continuous integration and test automation tools is beneficial, as is hands-on experience in the software development lifecycle and technical team supervision.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree, preferably in computer science or a related field. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of software engineering and IT architecture, which are essential for the role.
Experience:
The position requires at least three years of relevant IT professional experience, with a strong emphasis on software development, particularly in Java and JavaScript. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on software architecture design and implementation, as well as experience in leading technical teams and making design decisions in a professional setting. Experience in the banking, financing, or insurance domain is considered an advantage, as it provides context for the specific applications and systems the EIB develops.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the EIB. Knowledge of other EU languages is advantageous, particularly French, as both English and French are official working languages of the bank. Proficiency in French is not a prerequisite for hire but is necessary for future career development within the organization.
