Job Overview:
The Information Management Intern will be based in Nairobi and will play a crucial role in supporting the Information Management Team. The intern will be responsible for strengthening data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting across DRC's regional and country programs. Under the supervision of the Information Management team, the intern will assist in maintaining information management systems, ensuring data quality, preparing reports and dashboards, and providing technical and administrative support for various information management activities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in humanitarian information management while contributing to evidence-based decision-making and organizational learning. The intern will work closely with program teams, MEAL colleagues, and other technical units as required, fostering collaboration and enhancing the overall effectiveness of DRC's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties and responsibilities will include supporting the Information Management Team in maintaining and updating information management systems, databases, and dashboards. They will assist in ensuring that these systems are accurate, accessible, and aligned with organizational standards. The intern will help develop and maintain data collection tools, templates, and supporting documentation, as well as support the standardization of information management processes across projects and departments. They will provide first-level support to staff using information management tools and escalate technical issues when necessary. Additionally, the intern will assist in collecting, compiling, cleaning, and organizing data from multiple program sources, supporting data validation and quality assurance processes to improve the reliability and consistency of datasets. They will prepare routine reports, dashboards, maps, and data visualizations for internal and external use, and support the Information Management Team in analyzing program data to generate insights for decision-making. The intern will also assist with GIS and spatial data management activities, maintain organized digital records and documentation repositories, consolidate information from different country offices and technical teams, track reporting timelines, and contribute to the testing and improvement of new information management tools and workflows. Furthermore, the intern will assist in preparing user guides, training materials, and standard operating procedures for information management systems, support the delivery of orientation sessions and basic training on data collection tools and reporting platforms, and provide day-to-day assistance to staff on routine information management processes under the guidance of the Information Management Team. They will support routine data quality checks, implement data quality assurance procedures, ensure compliance with DRC’s data protection and confidentiality policies, and recommend improvements to data management practices as needed. Collaboration with the Information Management Team and coordination with program staff, MEAL colleagues, and other technical teams will be essential to facilitate timely data collection and reporting. The intern will also support the documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and case studies from program data, maintain knowledge management resources, and participate in team meetings.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of experience in information management, database design or administration, and/or information management with development projects implemented by national/international NGOs or UN agencies. Candidates should have working knowledge and experience in data analysis software such as Excel, SQL, Access, PowerBI, or other statistical packages. A strong understanding of data management systems, including database design, management, and administration, is essential. Experience with GIS mapping and other spatial analysis tools is considered an advantage. Candidates should possess an in-depth understanding of database platforms and the ability to write code and queries. Knowledge of M&E processes and data collection platforms such as Kobo, ODK, SurveyCTO, and CommCare is also required. Demonstrated experience in training and capacity-building on information management systems and data collection processes is important, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a university degree in computer science, Data Science, programming, information management, information technologies, or other relevant areas. A certificate in programming languages is desirable but not mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in information management, database design or administration, and/or information management with development projects implemented by national/international NGOs or UN agencies. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of data management systems and the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
