Job Overview:
The Health Emergency Data and Information Management Officer will play a crucial role in strengthening data information collection within the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE). This position involves ensuring systematic tracking of data points, enhancing data quality, and supporting evidence-based decision-making across various phases of health emergency operations, including preparedness, response, and recovery. The officer will be part of the Health Emergency Information and Risk Assessment (HIM) unit and will report directly to the Programme Area Manager of the HIM Unit. The role is essential for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of health data, which is vital for effective health emergency management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Health Emergency Data and Information Management Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

• Data Collection, Management, and Quality Assurance: Maintaining and updating regional WHE datasets, ensuring the quality of data related to surveillance, event monitoring, risk assessment, and more. This includes assisting in organizing signals/events, maintaining databases, and supporting the tracking of verification processes.
• Data Systems, Repositories, and Information Management: Mapping existing data flows, developing standard procedures for data collection and validation, and organizing electronic information repositories.
• Analysis, Visualization, and Reporting: Analyzing health emergency data to identify trends and gaps, preparing data visualization products, and generating standard monitoring outputs.
• Coordination, Technical Support, and Knowledge Sharing: Assisting WHO Country Offices and WHE technical units in data submissions, resolving discrepancies, and promoting the use of data templates and reporting tools.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong technical expertise in data management and analysis, with a proven ability to produce results and work effectively in teams. Excellent communication skills are essential for conveying complex information in a credible manner. Candidates should also demonstrate respect for individual and cultural differences, which is vital in a diverse working environment.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in public health, data science, statistics, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in data management or health informatics may be preferred.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in data management, preferably within a health emergency context. Experience working with international organizations or in public health settings is highly desirable. Familiarity with WHO data governance standards and health emergency frameworks will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of WHO. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Western Pacific Region may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
