Job Overview:

The role reports to the Regional Director for Southern Africa and is based in Maputo, Mozambique.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director will provide strategic leadership to CHAI Mozambique, guiding the country team across various health programs to deliver transformational impact within the healthcare system. Responsibilities include strengthening partnerships with the Ministry of Health, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication with CHAI leadership and global teams, and leading the expansion of CHAI's program portfolio. The Country Director will oversee program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, ensuring high-quality execution and accountability for program budgets. Additionally, the role involves representing CHAI externally, developing a high-performing country team, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and providing direct programmatic support as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in public health, business, or a relevant discipline, along with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience or a minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in overseeing multiple health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Demonstrated leadership experience with operational, financial, and people management accountability is essential, as is the ability to navigate complex government environments and engage diverse stakeholders. A strong track record in managing health programs, delivering sustainable health impact, and achieving organizational and donor commitments is required. Candidates should also have experience in budget management, strategic partnership development, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Educational Background:
A Master's degree in public health, business, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively lead health programs and manage complex projects within the healthcare system.
Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, or a minimum of 5 years of directly related progressive leadership experience overseeing multiple health programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership experience in operational, financial, and people management, as well as a proven ability to navigate complex government environments and engage diverse stakeholders.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills required to build and maintain trusted relationships with cross-functional teams and external partners. Fluency in Portuguese is strongly preferred due to the role's extensive engagement with the Mozambican ecosystem.
Additional Notes:
