Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations was established in 1945 and has been operational in Egypt since 197
  • The organization aims to eliminate hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition, and to make agriculture, forestry, and fisheries more productive and sustainable. FAO works in over 130 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 12,000 employees. Its mission includes promoting good agricultural practices, supporting policy development, and facilitating South-South Cooperation to enhance agricultural productivity and rural development.

Job Overview:
The FAO is seeking online volunteers in Egypt to support a social media campaign focused on raising awareness about One Health and the interconnections between human health, animal health, plant health, and the environment. This initiative aims to mobilize 1,000 volunteers who will disseminate FAO-approved information through their social media platforms. Volunteers do not need to have expertise in health, agriculture, or environmental science, as FAO will provide all necessary content and guidance. This role is ideal for individuals who are active on social media and wish to contribute to a significant cause. By participating, volunteers will not only help spread important messages but also gain insights into the One Health concept and its implications for daily life. Additionally, volunteers will receive a UNV Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion of their assignment, recognizing their contribution to this vital campaign.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an online volunteer, your primary responsibilities will include sharing FAO-approved posts, messages, and visuals through your social media accounts and networks. You will help raise awareness about One Health and antimicrobial resistance by disseminating reliable information regarding the connections between people, animals, food, agriculture, and the environment. You will be expected to use the campaign's approved hashtags, links, and messages when sharing content. Furthermore, you will encourage your online community to engage with the topic of One Health and to take positive actions based on the information shared. FAO will provide you with all campaign materials and instructions, so you will not be required to create scientific content independently.

Required Qualifications:
The position does not have specific formal qualifications; however, candidates should possess strong social media skills and a willingness to engage with their online communities. An interest in health, agriculture, or environmental issues is beneficial but not mandatory. Volunteers should be proactive, communicative, and capable of effectively sharing information in an engaging manner.

Educational Background:
There are no specific educational requirements for this volunteer position. However, familiarity with social media platforms and an understanding of basic health and environmental concepts may enhance the effectiveness of the volunteer's contributions.

Experience:
While prior experience in health, agriculture, or environmental fields is not required, candidates should have experience using social media for communication and outreach purposes. Previous volunteer experience or involvement in community engagement initiatives may be advantageous but is not a prerequisite for applying.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, as the campaign targets communities across Egypt. Proficiency in English is also beneficial, as it may help in understanding the campaign materials provided by FAO and in engaging with a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the commitment is flexible, allowing volunteers to contribute as much time as they can. The role is part-time and does not offer financial compensation; however, volunteers will receive a UNV Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion of their assignment. The campaign is focused on recruiting volunteers nationally within Egypt.
