Job Overview: The Programme Analyst position at UNFPA involves contributing to the effective management of the country programme activities by analyzing and assessing relevant political, social, and economic trends. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Programme Analyst include:
Contributing to the formulation and design of the country programme and its component projects in alignment with government priorities and UNFPA policies.
Providing technical support for the design and implementation of innovative strategies and policies focused on sexual and reproductive health, including emergency obstetric care and maternal health.
Supporting the strengthening of the health sector by participating in the development and review of national policies, strategies, and operational plans.
Contributing to advocacy and resource mobilization efforts by identifying funding opportunities and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders.
Ensuring quality in programme and project design by incorporating lessons learned and best practices.
Analyzing the political, social, and economic environment to identify opportunities for UNFPA assistance.
Facilitating the timely delivery of project inputs and addressing training needs of project personnel.
Documenting and sharing knowledge on population development trends for future planning. 1
Preparing relevant documentation to assist in resource mobilization efforts.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Programme Analyst position include:
A Master’s degree in medicine, public health, sociology, international development, or a related field.
At least two years of professional experience in development and population activities, preferably in programme/project management.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with governments, academia, and the development community.
Excellent report writing and oral presentation skills.
Familiarity with the UN system is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as medicine, public health, sociology, international development, or other related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of sexual and reproductive health and the broader context of development work.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in the field of development and population activities, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience in programme or project management. This experience should include working with government entities, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the development sector.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions where UNFPA operates.
