Job Overview:
The Project Officer for Gender and Safeguarding will play a crucial role in providing technical and operational support for the i-Work program implementation, specifically focusing on gender equality, social inclusion, and safeguarding. This position requires the integration of principles related to gender equality, youth empowerment, disability inclusion, and safeguarding across all interventions at the cluster level. The role is designed to ensure that all program activities are safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive, adhering to VSO's safeguarding policies, procedures, and local legal requirements. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the program not only meets its objectives but also aligns with the broader goals of promoting social justice and equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support in the implementation of gender equality and safeguarding initiatives within the i-Work program.
• Conduct training sessions for staff and stakeholders on gender equality, social inclusion, and safeguarding practices.
• Perform safeguarding risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
• Collaborate with local partners and stakeholders to promote inclusive practices and ensure the participation of marginalized groups in program activities.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of gender and safeguarding interventions, providing feedback for continuous improvement.
• Handle sensitive cases confidentially and provide support to individuals affected by safeguarding issues.
• Prepare reports and documentation related to gender and safeguarding activities, ensuring compliance with donor and legal requirements.
• Engage in advocacy efforts to promote gender equality and safeguarding at the community and policy levels.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant social science field, such as gender studies, sociology, or international development. Additionally, candidates should have at least 6 years of experience working in gender, inclusion, and safeguarding, particularly within NGOs or development programs. Proven experience in delivering training, conducting safeguarding risk assessments, and managing sensitive cases is essential. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as social sciences, gender studies, or international development. Advanced degrees or certifications in gender equality, social inclusion, or safeguarding are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in gender, inclusion, and safeguarding is required. Experience working with NGOs or in development programs is essential, along with a proven track record of delivering training and conducting safeguarding assessments. Familiarity with local legal frameworks and donor requirements related to gender and safeguarding is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Ethiopia is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
