Job Overview:
The Biodiversity Intern will support WWF-Fiji’s conservation initiatives, primarily within the Great Sea Reef Programme and the Great Astrolabe Reef Programme. This internship is part of WWF International's expanded global Youth Engagement Programme aimed at inspiring a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders, particularly young women. The intern will engage in various activities, including research, project implementation, community engagement, and capacity building. The role requires a strong commitment to conservation and the ability to work collaboratively with local communities and organizations. The intern will also be responsible for conducting surveys, data collection, and digital recording to support project monitoring and evaluation. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful conservation efforts while gaining valuable experience in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including conducting research and documentation to assist with data collection and management. They will participate in meetings and workshops, representing WWF-Fiji at various levels, including provincial, district, and community levels. The intern will engage with local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to establish networking opportunities. They will also support youth engagement through training and awareness programs, ensuring equal participation of gender and inclusivity for persons with disabilities. Additionally, the intern will assist with community outreach and awareness activities, participate in relevant training and workshops, and provide regular field updates and monthly progress reports to program managers. The role requires adaptability to field conditions and a commitment to following WWF-Fiji protocols in reporting and engagement processes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess relevant tertiary qualifications in fields such as marine biology, biology, environmental science, social studies, international development, or other relevant areas. In cases where candidates do not have a tertiary degree, relevant work experience will be considered. The ideal candidate should have experience working with youth organizations and organizing youth engagement activities. A strong interest in nature conservation is essential, along with the ability to work independently and in challenging field conditions. Basic IT skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, are required, as well as the ability to use the internet for communication and research purposes. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work with organizations representing vulnerable and marginalized groups, such as people with disabilities and rural women.

Educational Background:
The position requires relevant tertiary qualifications in marine biology, biology, environmental science, social studies, international development, or other related fields. Candidates without a degree may still be considered if they have relevant work experience that demonstrates their capability in the field.

Experience:
The intern should have experience working with youth organizations and organizing youth programs. While specific years of experience are not mandated, a demonstrated interest in nature conservation and the ability to work in the field under challenging conditions are crucial. Candidates should be adaptable and physically fit for field trips, which may involve difficult weather and rugged terrain.

Languages:
English is essential for this position, and proficiency in Fijian is highly desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the intern's ability to engage with local communities and stakeholders.
