Job Overview:
The Programme Analyst position is crucial for enhancing the management of UNFPA's country programme activities. The role involves analyzing and assessing political, social, and economic trends to provide inputs for project formulation and evaluation. The Programme Analyst will work closely with government counterparts, NGOs, and other partners to ensure that the country programme aligns with government priorities and UNFPA policies. The position requires a focus on sexual and reproductive health, particularly in areas such as emergency obstetric care, maternal and perinatal death surveillance, and cervical cancer prevention. The Programme Analyst will also contribute to advocacy and resource mobilization efforts, ensuring that the programme design incorporates lessons learned and best practices, while establishing effective monitoring mechanisms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Analyst will be responsible for several key duties, including:
  • Contributing to the formulation and design of the country programme and its projects in alignment with government priorities and UNFPA policies.
  • Providing technical support for the implementation of innovative strategies and policies related to sexual and reproductive health.
  • Supporting the strengthening of the health sector through the development and review of national policies and clinical guidelines.
  • Engaging in advocacy and resource mobilization efforts by exploring funding opportunities and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Ensuring quality programme design by incorporating lessons learned and establishing monitoring systems.
  • Analyzing the political, social, and economic environment to identify opportunities for UNFPA intervention.
  • Coordinating project implementation through collaboration with executing agencies and UN partners.
  • Facilitating the timely delivery of project inputs and addressing training needs.
  • Documenting and sharing knowledge on population development trends for future strategy planning. 1
  • Preparing relevant documentation to assist in resource mobilization efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in medicine, public health, sociology, international development, or a related field. Additionally, they should have two years of professional experience in development and population activities, preferably in programme/project management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with governments, academia, and the development community, along with excellent report writing and presentation skills. Familiarity with the UN system is desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to navigate the organizational landscape.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree is required for this position, with a focus on fields such as medicine, public health, sociology, or international development. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Programme Analyst has the necessary knowledge and skills to address the complexities of population and development issues effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in the field of development and population activities. This experience should ideally include programme/project management, demonstrating the candidate's ability to contribute to the effective management of UNFPA's country programme activities. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with government entities, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the development sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position.
