Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for CHAI Kenya will be responsible for leading the organization's strategy, operations, and programmatic impact in Kenya. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with national and county governments, donors, and partners, while overseeing a multi-program team. The Country Director will shape the long-term vision for CHAI Kenya, ensuring alignment with both CHAI's global strategy and Kenya's national health priorities. The position requires an entrepreneurial leader who can navigate a complex operating environment and drive transformational impact within Kenya's health system.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of approximately 55 individuals and manage a multi-program portfolio to deliver impactful health system strengthening initiatives.
  • Elevate CHAI's role as a trusted partner to the Kenya Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and donors.
  • Ensure effective communication with CHAI's regional and global leadership.
  • Oversee design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and expansion, guiding programs toward sustainable impact.
  • Ensure rigorous monitoring and evaluation of programs to meet donor commitments.
  • Represent CHAI at national and international forums.
  • Build and lead CHAI Kenya's leadership team, enhancing office processes and fostering a culture of impact and inclusion.
  • Establish relationships with current and prospective donors to support fundraising efforts. 1
  • Ensure financial management and compliance across the country program. 1
  • Foster collaboration and idea-sharing with other CHAI country directors. 1
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by regional leadership.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in public health, business, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in strategic program management, particularly in global health or international development.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role with experience in managing and developing diverse teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven success in leading integrated program strategies that achieve measurable health impact.
  • Strong understanding of health systems strengthening and global health programs relevant to Kenya.
  • Experience navigating complex government processes and building consensus among stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in public health, business, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of health systems and program management in a global health context.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 15 years of progressive experience in strategic program management, with a strong focus on global health or international development. A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role is required, demonstrating the ability to manage and develop staff effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.

This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and may require frequent travel within the country and occasional international travel. The role is full-time and involves significant leadership responsibilities, including operational and financial accountability.
