Job Overview:
The Applied AI Associate (Public Health) position is a hands-on role within the Health Analytics and AI Unit (HAAU) at the National Health Authority (NHA). The individual will leverage their understanding of public health and applied AI to translate the NHA's programmatic priorities into technical requirements and solutions. This role involves developing and operationalizing pipelines and tools for data structuring, validation, and AI-assisted analytics. The associate will work closely with programmatic and health-financing teams to ensure that analytical designs are effectively turned into working systems, contributing to the enhancement of India's flagship health protection and digital health programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Applied AI Associate will be responsible for translating programmatic priorities into clear technical requirements, preparing data for analytics, and building operational pipelines that ensure scalability and reproducibility. Key duties include developing workflows for AI-assisted data structuring, creating anonymization pipelines compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, supporting the development of natural-language querying capabilities, and applying model-monitoring practices. The associate will also be expected to perform other responsibilities as assigned by WJCF and NHA leadership, ensuring that all tools and systems are built with a focus on quality and compliance with relevant regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, public health, or a closely related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in building machine learning and AI systems is required, with a proven track record of taking projects from prototype to production. Hands-on experience with evaluating and benchmarking AI systems, as well as familiarity with large-scale data processing and public health data, is essential. Proficiency in Python and SQL is mandatory, along with strong analytical and communication skills.
Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, statistics, or public health. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical and analytical aspects of the role, as well as the public health context in which the associate will operate.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in the field, specifically in building and maintaining machine learning and AI systems in a production environment. Experience with model evaluation, data processing, and public health analytics is highly desirable, as is familiarity with operational integration of model outputs and cloud ML platforms.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in Hindi or another Indian language is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication within diverse teams and with stakeholders in the public health sector.
