Job Overview:
The position of Human Subjects Protection Materials Translation – French is crucial for the RDI/HSP team as it involves translating essential materials into French for use in French-speaking countries. The candidate will be responsible for translating eight informed consent templates, validating and updating the Human Subjects Protection Fundamentals Course, which has been initially translated using software, and translating additional documents linked within the course, such as the HSP glossary. This role is vital for ensuring that the materials are accessible and culturally relevant for French-speaking populations, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of human subjects protection initiatives in these regions. The candidate must be familiar with African dialects and grammar to ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translate eight informed consent templates from English to French, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance.
  • Validate and update the Human Subjects Protection Fundamentals Course translation, correcting any errors from the initial software translation.
  • Translate additional documents linked within the course, including the HSP glossary.
  • Collaborate with the RDI/HSP team to ensure that all translated materials meet the organization's standards for clarity and effectiveness.
  • Provide feedback on the translation process and suggest improvements where necessary.
  • Maintain communication with team members to discuss progress and address any challenges encountered during the translation process.
  • Ensure that all translations are completed within the estimated 9-week assignment duration, dedicating approximately 20% of time each month to this project.

Required Qualifications:
  • Fluency in French, with a strong understanding of African dialects and grammar.
  • Proven experience in translation, particularly in the context of human subjects protection or related fields.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain the integrity of the original materials during translation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate collaboration with team members.
  • Familiarity with ethical standards and practices related to human subjects protection is a plus.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in translation or relevant coursework in human subjects protection may be beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in translation, particularly in translating technical or legal documents. Experience working with human subjects protection materials or in a research-related environment is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly other African languages, is considered a plus but not required.

The assignment is estimated to last for 9 weeks, with the candidate expected to dedicate approximately 20% of their time to the project each month. The position is suitable for individuals currently in a grade 6 or under position, and the assigned candidate will be compensated at their current salary level.
