Job Overview:
The Rural Development and Project Manager will play a crucial role in leading the implementation of the snow leopard conservation project in alignment with WWF Mongolia’s strategic conservation priorities. This position is responsible for ensuring that project activities are delivered effectively and efficiently, with a strong emphasis on operational excellence, accountability, and measurable conservation impact on the ground. The manager will assist the Conservation Director in coordinating all project activities, providing technical management, and ensuring compliance with approved policies and donor requirements. The role also focuses on fostering sustainable livelihoods and rural development aspects within the organization's strategies while understanding the conservation needs of the programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Rural Development and Project Manager will handle full responsibility for the overall management and successful delivery of the project, ensuring all activities are implemented on time and in accordance with approved work plans, WWF Network policies, and donor requirements. This includes managing and guiding project staff and consultants, providing technical support to field staff and local stakeholders, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with governments and community-based organizations. The manager will develop terms of reference for external experts, elaborate quarterly and annual work plans, and ensure accurate and timely submission of reports. Additionally, the role involves designing conservation-oriented business development initiatives, supporting capacity building for herder communities, and integrating sustainability principles into rural development initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate timely and high-quality implementation of all project activities, with comprehensive reports compliant with WWF Network and donor requirements. They should provide strategic oversight and technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders, develop and monitor work plans, and manage risks effectively. The ideal candidate will have established business development strategies tailored for conservation objectives, strengthened herder community cooperatives, and increased community awareness of sustainable practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, along with proficiency in problem-solving and data analysis.
Educational Background:
A higher degree in an agriculture business-related field is required, although relevant work experience may substitute for higher academic qualifications. Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in program and project management, including business and marketing, and rural development.
Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in program and project management, particularly in areas related to business and marketing, as well as rural development. Proven ability to complete projects within scope, budget, and timeline is essential, along with familiarity with conservation and natural resource management in Mongolia being advantageous.
Languages:
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required.
