Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant - GBV Caseworker will play a crucial role in implementing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management activities under the supervision of the GBV Coordinator. This position is vital for providing essential case management services to survivors of GBV and other beneficiaries affected by crises in the region. The assistant will work closely with the DRC Tigray protection team, engaging in various aspects of protection case management, community-based protection, legal protection, and support within protection centers. The role requires a compassionate and proactive individual who can navigate complex situations while adhering to DRC’s standards and protocols. The assistant will be responsible for ensuring that survivors receive the necessary support and services, while also contributing to the overall improvement of GBV response mechanisms in the community.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in social work, social science, law, or another relevant field from a recognized institution. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of GBV and the legal frameworks surrounding it, as well as for effectively engaging with survivors and providing the necessary support and services.
Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Protection Assistant - GBV Caseworker position is a minimum of 1 year in protection, ideally with an international humanitarian organization. This experience should include familiarity with case management processes, referral systems, and an understanding of the challenges faced by GBV survivors in crisis situations. Field experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable, as it equips the candidate with the skills necessary to navigate complex and often volatile environments while providing essential support to vulnerable populations.
Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position include good proficiency in written and spoken English, Amharic, and Tigrinya. Fluency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with survivors, community members, and other stakeholders involved in GBV response efforts. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse populations.

The main duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant - GBV Caseworker include:
- Providing high-quality and confidential case management services in line with DRC’s case management SOPs and minimum standards for service provision.
- Conducting referrals to relevant services as needed, implementing action plans, and ensuring appropriate follow-up and case closure when necessary.
- Offering counseling to all survivors referred to case management services.
- Conducting case management in safe spaces identified in collaboration with survivors.
- Filing and storing GBV data in the GBV information management systems (GBVIMS) while complying with the information sharing protocol developed at the inter-agency level.
- Facilitating emotional support group sessions for women and girls at risk of or survivors of GBV, adhering to best practices and DRC’s guidelines.
- Supporting the delivery of basic GBV training to community structures, including sessions on GBV core concepts and guiding principles, as well as safe identification and referral of GBV cases.
- Identifying gaps in GBV response services and referral protocols and reporting them to the GBV Officer and Coordinator.
- Ensuring regular quality implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of GBV-related projects and interventions. 1
- Engaging with the community and community representatives to understand needs and gaps in GBV programming. 1
- Incorporating a survivor-centered approach in all GBV case management activities. 1
- Maintaining strict confidentiality for all case-related information and protecting the identities of survivors in all activities. 1
- Carrying out additional protection activities as assigned by the protection manager.
Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Assistant - GBV Caseworker position include:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work in complex and challenging circumstances.
- Experience in case management and referral-related activities is desirable.
