Job Overview: The Senior Energy Specialist position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the South Asia Energy Practice, which is part of the Infrastructure Group. This position focuses on the design and implementation of energy sector operations and analytical tasks, particularly in the gas sector. The selected candidate will engage with various stakeholders, including government representatives and private sector partners, to address the challenges faced by the energy sector in South Asia. The role requires a deep understanding of energy policies, technologies, and strategies, as well as the ability to lead analytical and strategic work related to energy projects. The Senior Energy Specialist will play a key role in facilitating policy dialogue, coordinating with government counterparts, and providing high-quality research and analytical support to ensure the successful execution of energy projects in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including: staying updated on global and regional developments in the energy sector, particularly regarding natural gas; participating in dialogues with private sector representatives to identify collaboration opportunities; contributing to policy discussions and alerting management to critical issues; leading or co-leading analytical and strategic work related to the energy sector; overseeing the preparation, appraisal, negotiations, and supervision of energy projects; coordinating with government counterparts and consultants; providing high-quality research and analytical support; drafting project documents and reports; and supporting the preparation and follow-up of official missions. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Practice Manager as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a PhD or Master's degree in energy engineering, planning, finance, economics, or a related field relevant to energy sector development. A minimum of 8 years of combined experience in international institutions, government agencies, or power sector utilities is required, with a proven track record of successful engagement in complex projects. Familiarity with the design, development, implementation, and operations of energy and gas projects is essential, along with experience in arranging financing for large infrastructure projects. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of energy policies, technologies, and strategies, as well as experience in policy dialogue with clients and stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a PhD or Master's degree in fields such as energy engineering, energy planning, energy finance, or economics.
