Job Overview:
The Communications Advisor will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and impact of the GPA's work on sustainable energy solutions in displacement and fragile contexts. This position involves developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the GPA's objectives, including policy, partnership, fundraising, and program goals. The advisor will be responsible for creating compelling narratives and advocacy campaigns, producing high-quality communications materials, and coordinating communications efforts among GPA partners. The role requires a strategic approach to messaging and audience targeting, ensuring that communications are effective and resonate with various stakeholders, including governments, donors, and humanitarian agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in energy, environment, international development, or a related field. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in advocacy and communications, with at least 3 years at a senior management level. Proven experience in strategic advocacy or communication focused on energy, environment, or sustainability is required, along with documented high-level advocacy experience with national energy-sector leaders.
Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in energy, environment, international development, humanitarian studies, international relations, public policy, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in advocacy and communications, with at least 3 years at a senior management level. Proven experience of 5 years in strategic advocacy or strategic communication with a focus on energy, environment, climate, or sustainability is required. Experience working in challenging and politically complex situations is also necessary, along with documented high-level advocacy experience with national energy-sector leaders. Desirable experience includes working in developing or displacement-affected countries and managing staff in different geographical locations.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in French is desirable. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, with English being the primary language for the role.
Additional Notes:
The position is a remote role with a seniority level classified as Senior Level (ICS 11). The contract type is ICA - IICA - Retainer, with a duration of 1 year and the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. - Coordinate targeted communication campaigns to mobilize partners and promote commitments to sustainable energy access.
