WOUGNET (Women of Uganda Network) is a women's rights NGO established to promote the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by women and girls for gender equality and sustainable development. The organization aims to create an inclusive and just society where women and girls can leverage ICTs to address local and national sustainable development challenges. WOUGNET focuses on enhancing communication through various means, including the Internet, radio, video, television, and print media, to improve the living conditions of women by fostering collaboration and information sharing. The organization operates primarily in Uganda and is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the digital landscape, particularly in rural areas where access to technology is limited.

Job Overview:
The position involves designing a new logo for WOUGNET as part of a broader communications strategy aimed at strengthening the organization's brand as a Centre of Excellence on Gender Equality, Digital Innovation, and Technology. The selected volunteer will work under the supervision of the Communications/Programs Team and will be responsible for creating a logo that embodies the organization's mission and values. This role is crucial in enhancing WOUGNET's visibility and institutional strength, particularly in the context of the ongoing digital transformation that presents both opportunities and challenges for women in Uganda. The volunteer will need to understand the organization's objectives and target audience to create a logo that resonates with its mission of promoting gender equality and digital inclusion.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
  • Reviewing background information on WOUGNET’s mission, values, and target audiences, which will be provided by the organization.
  • Developing three distinct logo concepts that reflect themes of gender equality, empowerment, innovation, and digital inclusion.
  • Incorporating feedback from WOUGNET to refine the selected logo concept, ensuring it aligns with the organization's vision and strategic focus.
  • Delivering the final logo in multiple formats suitable for both digital and print use, including PNG, JPG, SVG, AI, or PSD formats.
  • Providing basic brand guidance on logo usage, including color codes, fonts, and scaling to ensure consistent application across various media.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong graphic design skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar tools. A solid understanding of branding principles and the ability to create visually appealing designs that communicate the organization's values and mission are essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in logo design and a portfolio showcasing previous work in this area. Strong communication skills are also necessary to effectively incorporate feedback and collaborate with the WOUGNET team.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have formal education or training in design principles, branding, and visual communication. Relevant certifications or coursework in graphic design software will be advantageous.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be required, candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio of previous logo design work and experience in graphic design projects. Familiarity with the challenges faced by women in technology and digital inclusion will be beneficial, as it will inform the design process and ensure the logo resonates with the target audience.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all communications and feedback will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Uganda, would be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This position is a volunteer role, and while it does not specify a contract duration, it is expected to be a short-term engagement focused on the logo design project. The role is part-time and can be conducted remotely, allowing for flexibility in working hours. Compensation details are not provided, as this is a volunteer position.
