Job Overview:
The Biodiversity Officer for AHEC is a critical role within the Conservation Department of WWF Mongolia, responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of biodiversity-related projects and programs aligned with the WWF Mongolia Strategic Plan and the AHEC strategic plan. This position requires a proactive approach to managing and coordinating conservation efforts related to ecosystem/habitat and species/wildlife conservation. The officer will oversee the development of conservation strategies, establish baseline data for monitoring biodiversity, and ensure effective communication of findings to policy-makers. The role also involves engaging with local communities and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for conservation initiatives, thereby ensuring that conservation efforts are sustainable and beneficial to local populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Biodiversity Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the development of species and wildlife-related components under the Conservation strategy; managing and coordinating ecosystem/habitat and species/wildlife conservation projects; establishing baseline data on species/wildlife issues; communicating findings from field projects to policy levels; identifying conservation needs and developing project proposals; leading the adoption of SMART patrolling systems; providing technical support to State Protected Areas Administrations; supervising short-term employees and interns; facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement in conservation management; building relationships with local government and communities; ensuring adherence to environmental and social safeguard frameworks; supporting the Programme Manager in implementing program activities; and organizing new State and Local Protected Areas for habitat protection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an academic degree in environmental conservation, natural resources, natural sciences, or a related field. Technical proficiency in nature conservation and natural resource management is essential, with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in project planning and implementation. A good understanding of development partnerships, fundraising, donor strategies, and international relations is also required. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, presentation, public speaking, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team and motivate stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires an academic degree in a relevant field such as environmental conservation, natural resources, or natural sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of biodiversity conservation and the management of natural resources, as well as for developing effective conservation strategies and initiatives.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in project planning and implementation within the field of nature conservation and natural resource management. This experience should include working with diverse stakeholders, managing conservation projects, and engaging with local communities and governments to drive conservation efforts effectively.

Languages:
Intermediate oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in the AHEC field office located in Dadal soum, Khentii province, Mongolia. The role may require extensive travel in the field, estimated at 25% of the time annually.
