Job Overview:
The Development Coordinator position in Phoenix is a crucial role within the Development Team in Arizona. This position is tasked with enhancing and strengthening the engagement of local individuals, community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses in the welcoming and integration of refugees. The Development Coordinator is responsible for raising awareness and support for forcibly displaced populations while fostering a broader landscape for community engagement in Phoenix. Key responsibilities include private fundraising and the coordination of volunteer and in-kind donation programs for the Phoenix office. The Development Coordinator will work closely with the Development Director to ensure compliance with Match requirements, meet fundraising goals, engage donors effectively, and enhance clients' access to in-kind donation support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Coordinator will maintain donor cultivation through an integrated fundraising model, collaborating with the IRC headquarters’ Development and External Relations team to ensure proper recognition and ongoing engagement with local donors. This role involves expanding community partnerships, particularly with faith-based and community groups, and organizing all aspects of the volunteer and intern program, which includes recruiting, onboarding, and training new volunteers/interns, as well as implementing retention strategies to ensure volunteers feel valued and knowledgeable. The Development Coordinator will develop and maintain accurate volunteer records, including policies, procedures, position descriptions, and standards of conduct. They will also ensure that volunteer hours are captured for reporting purposes. Additionally, the Coordinator will work with the Operations team to create and execute an in-kind acquisition strategy for soliciting donations, coordinate donation drives based on clients' needs, and oversee the office's Match support through a combination of in-kind, volunteer time, and cash donations. The role includes planning and coordinating donation events, providing leadership at fairs and festivals, and collaborating with the Development Director to develop recruitment materials for volunteers and donors. The Coordinator will liaise with IRC headquarters staff on national in-kind and volunteer opportunities, including corporate engagement for Arizona, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a combination of education and experience typically represented by a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related human service field. Experience working with diverse clients in a non-profit setting is essential, with a preference for candidates who have worked with refugees. Experience in project or program management is also preferred, particularly in meeting deadlines, maintaining donor records, and completing timely reporting. The ideal candidate should be comfortable establishing relationships and collaborating with local and national organizations and businesses, demonstrating strong follow-through. They must be able to work effectively in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment, and experience using interpreters is desired. Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and situational awareness are critical, along with adaptability and flexibility to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of social services, particularly in relation to refugee and immigrant populations.
Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience working in a non-profit setting, particularly with diverse populations. Previous experience working with refugees is preferred, as is experience in project or program management, which includes meeting deadlines and maintaining accurate records.
Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial, particularly those relevant to the refugee populations served by the IRC.

The position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, and may involve a combination of standard office work, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area. Some weekend and evening work may be required. The compensation for this position is $26.78 per hour, with factors such as labor market conditions, job type, internal equity, and budget influencing the final offer.
