Job Overview:
The Senior Development Manager is responsible for leading resource development, communications, and volunteer management for the IRC’s San Diego office, which includes locations in San Diego and El Cajon. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including donor and funder cultivation, stewardship, grants development, special events, in-kind donations, volunteer program oversight, and community engagement. The Development Manager will supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and interns, and will be part of the senior management team, sharing accountability for the office’s strategy and operations. The position requires a proactive approach to fundraising, with an expectation to set and achieve annual private fundraising goals, develop tactical plans for various fundraising initiatives, and maintain strong relationships with donors and stakeholders. The role also involves overseeing communications strategies to enhance the office's visibility and engagement with the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Development Manager's responsibilities include setting annual private fundraising goals, developing and leading an annual development plan, conducting prospect research, managing special events, ensuring accurate donor records in Salesforce, leading grant proposal submissions, overseeing in-kind donations, and maintaining compliance with policies. The role also involves developing a communications/marketing-plan" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">marketing plan, ensuring timely responses to inquiries, producing the annual Impact Report, and representing the office at public engagements. Additionally, the manager will oversee volunteer management, provide leadership and professional development for direct reports, and maintain collaborative relationships with program staff to align fundraising efforts with organizational needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. A graduate degree in a related field is preferred. Essential work experience includes a minimum of 5 years in resource development or fundraising within a nonprofit or humanitarian organization, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in managing organizational communications, public relations, and budget monitoring related to fundraising goals. Familiarity with IRC’s Integrated Fundraising Model or similar structures is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Nonprofit Management, Communications, or Business Administration. A graduate degree is considered a plus, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in nonprofit management and resource development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in resource development or fundraising, specifically within a nonprofit, social services, or humanitarian context. Candidates should have a proven track record in donor cultivation, grant writing, and managing special events. Additionally, at least 2 years of supervisory experience is essential, demonstrating the ability to manage staff performance and development effectively.

Languages:
While English is mandatory, bilingual or multilingual skills are highly desirable, particularly in languages spoken by the local client community. This ability can enhance communication with diverse populations and improve outreach efforts.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in a standard professional office environment with local travel required throughout the San Diego and El Cajon service areas. A hybrid work schedule is available, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, with flexibility for remote work on other days. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary to support events and community activities. The compensation for this role is set at $105,370, with variations based on factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience.
