Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Community Centre for Integrated Development (CCID) is an organization dedicated to advancing the rights of communities, particularly focusing on women, girls, and young people in Cameroon. Established with the mission to empower community leaders and organizations, CCID aims to respond effectively to the needs of indigenous populations. The organization recognizes the importance of building resilient communities in Africa that can advocate for the rights and empowerment of women and girls, promote health, education, and human rights for all. CCID envisions a future where all individuals can exercise their rights freely, and communities collaborate with various stakeholders to foster development. The organization operates primarily in Cameroon, focusing on local community engagement and empowerment.

Job Overview:
The position involves working as an Online Volunteer with CCID to develop foundational governance and membership documentation for the Freedom to Decide Movement (FDM). This role is crucial for establishing a structured and effective governance framework that will guide the movement's operations. The volunteers will work collaboratively, with one focusing on governance drafting and the other on creating membership instruments that are accessible to a wide range of organizations, including those that are unregistered. The tasks include refining existing drafts, ensuring internal consistency, and creating documents that are user-friendly and suitable for individuals without legal training. The volunteers will also engage in regular virtual check-ins to discuss progress and incorporate feedback from the Movement Lead and founding members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the volunteers include:
  • Governance Drafting Volunteer: - Refining and completing the Movement’s founding charter, ensuring it is internally consistent and includes clear amendment provisions. - Developing electoral rules for the Movement’s first steering committee election, ensuring compliance with chartered composition requirements. - Producing terms of reference for the steering committee, working groups, and secretariat, along with standard meeting and minute templates.
  • Membership Instruments Volunteer: - Creating a comprehensive membership pack that includes a membership application form for both registered and unregistered organizations. - Developing workflows for endorsement and admission, a membership register template, and a welcome and orientation pack for new members. - Producing an annual activity return form aligned with membership obligations and a good-standing review template. - Creating plain-language versions of key articles from the charter and membership obligations, ensuring accessibility for readers without legal training. - Reviewing all documents for consistency, terminology, and ease of use by small community organizations. Both volunteers will participate in fortnightly virtual check-ins and revise documents based on feedback.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidates for this position should possess strong writing and communication skills, particularly in drafting legal and governance documents. They should have a good understanding of organizational governance and membership processes, as well as experience in working with community organizations. Familiarity with the context of youth-led movements and community development in Cameroon is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a remote setting and be open to feedback and revisions.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally have a background in law, political science, international development, or a related field. A degree or equivalent experience in governance, organizational development, or community engagement will be beneficial. Knowledge of legal frameworks and governance structures is essential for the governance drafting role, while the membership instruments role may benefit from experience in community organizing or youth engagement.

Experience:
The position requires volunteers to have prior experience in drafting governance documents or working with community organizations. Experience in political education, campaign coordination, or public accountability initiatives will be advantageous. Familiarity with the challenges faced by youth-led organizations and the ability to navigate complex social issues will also be beneficial for candidates.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation will be produced in English. Knowledge of French or Cameroonian Pidgin is a plus, as it will aid in making the documents accessible to a broader audience within the community.

Additional Notes:
This is a remote volunteer position, and the duration of the contract is not specified. The role is part-time and requires flexibility to accommodate virtual meetings and collaboration with other volunteers and CCID staff. Volunteers will not have access to sensitive data and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and complete a safeguarding briefing upon induction. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to contribute to community development and governance in a meaningful way.
