The Development and Outreach Department Intern at Human Rights Watch will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's fundraising efforts and outreach initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's primary responsibilities will include assisting with fundraising initiatives, planning and executing digital events, conducting prospect research to identify potential donors, managing databases to track donor information and engagement, and maintaining regular communication with existing donors and partner organizations. The intern will also support the preparation of materials for events, including invitations, programs, and follow-up communications. Other tasks may arise as needed, providing the intern with a well-rounded experience in various aspects of development and outreach. The intern will be expected to demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Participation in planning meetings and training sessions will also be part of the intern's responsibilities, allowing for professional development and networking opportunities within the organization.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this internship should possess strong organizational skills, be self-motivated, reliable, and flexible. Attention to detail and excellent time management skills are essential. A genuine interest in fundraising, outreach, and special events within a human rights context is required. Applicants should have a strong command of both written and spoken English and Dutch, as these languages are necessary for effective communication within the role. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and database management, is also required. Experience working collaboratively within a team setting is desirable, as the intern will be part of a small office environment.
Educational Background:
Applicants should be pursuing or have recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field related to the work of Human Rights Watch, such as Communication, International Relations, or a similar discipline. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of human rights advocacy and the operational aspects of non-profit organizations.
Experience:
While prior experience in fundraising or outreach is not mandatory, any relevant experience will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the fast-paced environment of a non-profit organization. Experience in team collaboration and project management will be beneficial for success in this role.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Dutch is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with diverse stakeholders is crucial. Additional language skills may be considered a plus, but they are not required for this internship.
Additional Notes:
This internship is a part-time position, requiring approximately 32 hours of work per week for a duration of six months. The internship is unpaid, with a gross monthly stipend of EUR 300 to help offset living expenses, in accordance with HRW policy. Interns who do not have transportation cards will be reimbursed for travel expenses up to EUR 30 net per day. Students may have the opportunity to arrange academic credit for their internship, and they are encouraged to check with their academic institutions regarding eligibility.
