Job Overview:
The Child Protection Team Leader is tasked with providing technical leadership and managing Child Protection programs across various project locations in Rakhine State, Myanmar. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality implementation of child protection interventions, which includes effective planning, supervision, monitoring, reporting, coordination, and capacity strengthening of staff and local partners. The Team Leader will directly supervise Protection Officers and Assistants, ensuring that all program activities comply with DRC policies, donor requirements, and established child protection standards. The position requires a proactive approach to address operational challenges and support emergency response activities when necessary, making it essential for the Team Leader to possess strong leadership and management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Child Protection Team Leader include:
  • Programme Planning and Implementation: Develop and monitor work plans aligned with project indicators and donor targets, lead the implementation of Child Protection activities, and ensure compliance with technical standards and budgets.
  • Team Leadership and Staff Management: Provide supervision and technical guidance to Child Protection staff, conduct performance feedback sessions, and promote a positive working environment.
  • Child Protection Case Management: Ensure high-quality case management services, monitor processes, and maintain confidentiality and data protection throughout.
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Information Management: Track project achievements, compile reports, and collaborate with the MEAL team for data quality.
  • Child Safeguarding and Accountability: Integrate safeguarding principles into interventions and promote compliance with DRC policies.
  • Coordination and Partnership: Collaborate with other program teams and local partners, participate in coordination meetings, and support interagency referral pathways.
  • Procurement and Operational Support: Prepare procurement plans and monitor the use of program resources.
  • Monitoring Visits and Quality Assurance: Conduct field visits to ensure compliance with project objectives and identify areas for improvement.
  • Capacity Building: Provide coaching and training for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge. 1
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to DRC policies and identify operational risks. 1
  • Other Responsibilities: Contribute to project design and represent DRC in meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Child Protection Team Leader position include:
  • A minimum of 3 years of management experience at a mid to senior level, preferably in humanitarian response.
  • Relevant experience working with humanitarian or development organizations.
  • Proven management skills and competence in people management.
  • Previous experience in Child Protection programs, including prevention and response activities.
  • Understanding of the operational context in Rakhine State.
  • Commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Relevant University Degree (e.g., social work) or equivalent professional qualification.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a relevant University Degree, such as in social work or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification that demonstrates their capability to perform the duties required for the Child Protection Team Leader role. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage child protection programs and lead a team of professionals in a challenging humanitarian context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in management roles, particularly within humanitarian organizations. Candidates should have a strong background in child protection, demonstrating their ability to lead programs and manage teams effectively. Experience in both prevention and response activities related to child protection is crucial, as well as a solid understanding of the operational context in Rakhine State, Myanmar. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the Team Leader can navigate the complexities of humanitarian work and provide effective support to vulnerable populations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all applications and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Rakhine State would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders, enhancing the effectiveness of the Child Protection programs.

Additional Notes:
The contract offered for this position is a DRC Regular contract, which includes a 3-month probation period. The contract is renewable based on funding availability and performance. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment, and the position is classified within Employment Band G3-management.
