The Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) is a global network that comprises over 25,000 individual members and is affiliated with more than 4,000 organizations across 190 countries. This includes representatives from UN agencies, international and national NGOs, donors, governments, universities, schools, and affected populations. INEE's mission is to ensure that all individuals have the right to quality education in emergencies (EiE) and during post-crisis recovery. The organization is hosted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and is currently undergoing a transformation to adopt a new operating model that emphasizes regional and national focus, aiming to bring the network closer to the local realities of crisis-affected contexts. INEE is committed to being the principal convener and thought leader in the sector, challenging existing power structures and shifting the center of gravity in EiE.
Job Overview:
The Technical Lead will be an integral part of INEE’s Technical Support, Exchange, and Standards team, working under the oversight of the Minimum Standards Technical Co-Lead. This role focuses on leading INEE’s partnership with Fab AI, which is centered on the expansion and adaptation of the Quality Assurance Facility for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education Technology (EdTech) specifically tailored for crisis-affected contexts. The Technical Lead will be responsible for guiding the development of quality assurance components for AI EdTech, including establishing benchmarks and conducting rapid evaluations to define standards of excellence in AI EdTech in emergencies. This position requires a blend of project management skills and technical expertise to ensure that the initiatives align with INEE’s strategic goals and effectively address the needs of the education sector in emergencies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in education and have a minimum of 5-7 years of directly relevant professional experience. A strong theoretical and practical background in the field of education in emergencies and EdTech is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a proven track record of managing and delivering projects in the education sector across various contexts and involving partnerships. An in-depth understanding of INEE’s operational methods and its role in the EiE sector is also required.
Educational Background:
The position requires a postgraduate degree in education, which provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of education in emergencies and the integration of technology in educational settings.
Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the field of education in emergencies and educational technology. This experience should include managing projects and working collaboratively with various stakeholders in the education sector.
Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in another INEE language is desirable, which would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in the field.
Additional Notes:
This position is fully remote, with the possibility of being hosted in IRC offices. The role may require travel up to 10% of the time to challenging field locations. It is open to internal candidates based in countries where IRC operates, specifically those with the right to work in their location. Successful candidates will be hired on a local employment contract and compensated according to the local salary scale. - Contributing subject matter expertise on various thematic areas related to Education in Emergencies to the QA Facility, such as Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), School Safety, and Accelerated Education in Emergencies.
- Engaging with INEE’s membership to gather insights on current practices, needs, and demands regarding AI EdTech in emergencies, ensuring that project activities reflect this input.
- Supporting the strengthening and localization of INEE’s network to include stakeholders and decision-makers in EiE contexts who may utilize the QA Facility.
- Representing INEE and the project in key international forums to disseminate findings, raise awareness, and promote the use of the QA Facility.
- Assisting the INEE Secretariat in strategic thinking and thought leadership concerning AI EdTech in emergencies.
