Job Overview:
The Satellite Imagery Analysis Specialist position is a mid-level role focused on validating and quality-assuring AI-generated damage assessments and settlement maps through the review of satellite imagery. The specialist will ensure the accuracy of automated assessments, making sure that the outputs are reliable for humanitarian decision-making. This role is part of the UN Global Pulse's Data Insights for Social and Humanitarian Action (DISHA) project, which aims to leverage data and AI solutions for social impact. The specialist will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across various time zones, primarily in East Asia, Europe, and the Eastern United States, requiring a flexible working schedule. The position is a retainer role, providing technical expertise on an intermittent basis, and is expected to deliver timely, high-quality satellite imagery analysis, especially in response to natural disasters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Satellite Imagery Analysis Specialist include conducting primary analyses of satellite imagery, evaluating and correcting outputs from AI satellite imagery analysis pipelines, and producing accurate data and analytical products. The specialist will conduct visual and multispectral analyses of satellite imagery to inform humanitarian support efforts related to natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, and earthquakes. They will also acquire and assess satellite imagery inputs and ancillary data, develop internal capacities and workflows for DISHA activities, and contribute to the development of new DISHA solutions. Additionally, the specialist will support DISHA's program strategy by integrating its platform into relevant UN initiatives, maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and participating in coordination meetings. They will also contribute to resource mobilization efforts by preparing concept notes and donor proposals.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Geography, remote sensing, GIS, or a related technical field with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the same fields with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) applications in humanitarian crisis response and development. Experience with AI-assisted tools for satellite imagery analysis is considered an asset, as well as a good understanding of satellite imagery/data commercial distribution and licensing systems.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, remote sensing, GIS, or a related technical field. A Master’s degree in any of these fields is preferred. The educational background should be complemented by relevant experience in the field, with a focus on practical applications of the knowledge gained during studies.

Experience:
The position requires relevant experience in Geospatial Information Technology (GIT), satellite analysis, data management, or related areas. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with satellite imagery and data analysis, particularly in humanitarian contexts. Experience with AI-assisted tools for satellite imagery analysis is highly desirable, as is knowledge of theories and concepts relevant to the use of space technologies for humanitarian and development purposes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian is considered desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
