Project Associate - Protection

Job Overview:
The Project Associate - Protection will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of protection-related activities within the IOM's programs in Ethiopia. This position requires a proactive individual who can assist in the coordination of protection initiatives, ensuring that the needs of vulnerable populations are met. The Project Associate will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to facilitate the delivery of protection services. The role involves monitoring and evaluating project activities, collecting data, and reporting on progress to ensure that objectives are met effectively. The Project Associate will also be responsible for providing technical support and guidance to field staff, ensuring that protection principles are integrated into all aspects of project implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of protection activities in accordance with IOM policies and guidelines.
• Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to ensure effective delivery of protection services.
• Conduct assessments to identify the needs of vulnerable populations and develop appropriate response strategies.
• Collect and analyze data related to protection activities and prepare reports for management.
• Provide training and capacity-building support to staff and partners on protection issues and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with IOM's protection policies and standards in all project activities.
• Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to the development of strategic plans for protection programming.
• Support the development of project proposals and funding applications related to protection initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of protection issues and frameworks, including international human rights law and humanitarian principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, human rights, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is an advantage.

Experience:
At least 2 years of relevant work experience in protection programming, humanitarian response, or related fields is required. Experience working with vulnerable populations and knowledge of the local context in Ethiopia is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages such as Somali or Amharic is an asset and will be considered a strong advantage.
