Job Overview:
The Operations Adviser position at the World Bank is a critical role within the South Asia Region Development Effectiveness (SARDE) unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high operational quality management for the SAR portfolio and pipeline. This role requires a high-performing individual with extensive experience in operational management, who can adapt to various challenges and provide sound judgment in complex situations. The Operations Adviser will lead a team of six staff members, mentor them in their operational functions, and report directly to the SARDE Manager. The position involves significant collaboration with various stakeholders, including corporate partners, and requires travel to the South Asia region approximately twice a year. The Operations Adviser will play a key role in driving innovative approaches to enhance operational impact, ensuring compliance with corporate targets, and managing relationships with external partners.

The Operations Adviser will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including leading the Quality and Operations Support Team, providing operational advice to various teams, and ensuring alignment with corporate policies and procedures. Key duties include overseeing the implementation of innovative operational strategies, managing the RVP clearance process for pipeline reviews, advising on instrument selection and project design, and collaborating with corporate functions on operational matters. The role also involves preparing materials for internal reviews, leading operational learning efforts, and representing the SARDE Manager in various forums. The Operations Adviser will be expected to maintain high-quality deliverables, manage operational risks, and ensure effective communication across teams.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Operations Adviser position must possess a postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field, along with 12 to 15 years of relevant operational experience. A strong background in achieving results in diverse global contexts is essential, with a preference for candidates who have field experience. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Bank instruments and operational policies, demonstrating a collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively in a decentralized environment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to mentor staff and lead teams without formal authority.
