Job Overview:
The Technical Officer for Extension will provide analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis and support in the area of extension within the Land Restoration Platform ASA2, aligning with the principles and quality standards of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). This role is crucial for advancing high-quality programming for the poor and vulnerable, working closely with technical experts to enhance, adapt, and innovate CRS programming globally. The position requires a strong understanding of agronomic crop management and the ability to facilitate technological innovations and provide technical assistance to extension workers and partners, promoting the adoption of innovations tailored to farmers' realities. The officer will also be responsible for training extension workers and partners, developing communication content, and supporting the organization of farmer groups and networks to improve productivity and competitiveness in local and national markets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Technical Officer for Extension include facilitating technological innovations and providing technical assistance to extension workers and partners. The officer will train extension workers in methodologies and tools for both in-person and virtual extension services, support the development of hybrid extension services, and assist in creating communication materials. Additionally, the officer will help organize farmer groups and networks, support the development of productive strategies prioritizing crops for markets, and contribute to building local partnerships for technical assistance. Responsibilities also include researching and analyzing technical information, preparing presentations, coordinating project communication needs, and supporting design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation activities. The officer will collect and disseminate information, assist in organizing training workshops, and contribute to learning agendas through research and literature reviews. Collaboration with the MEAL Officer for monitoring field activities and contributing to technical reports is also essential.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a professional background in agronomy with a focus on human development. A minimum of two years of relevant work experience with an NGO is required, including at least one year of field program experience in a pedagogical capacity. Recent graduates may be considered for the position. Experience in monitoring systems and field monitoring of development projects, as well as in advising and training groups on development project aspects, is essential. Knowledge of program design requirements and donor regulations, project design, and proposal development is also necessary. Proficiency in MS Office applications, online conferencing tools, and knowledge of the latest technological tools applicable to training is required. Experience in agricultural extension services and technical assistance, as well as agronomic management of basic crops in Central America, is crucial.
Educational Background:
A degree in agronomy or a related field is required, with a focus on human development. Candidates should have a solid understanding of agricultural practices and extension methodologies, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings to support farmers effectively.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in the field, particularly with NGOs, and at least one year of experience in program work in a pedagogical context. Candidates with less experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong potential and relevant educational background.
Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, while basic proficiency in English is preferred. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will be beneficial for collaboration and reporting purposes.
Additional Notes:
This position may require travel up to 70% of the time to various intervention areas of the country program. The role is classified under Band 7, reporting to the Extension and Human Development Manager.
