Job Overview:
The Community Engagement Worker position is a part-time role (0.8 FTE) based in Doomadgee, Queensland, working from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This max term role is set to last until December 31st, 202
  • The primary function of this position is to work within the Education, Engagement, and Attainment Initiatives team to create lasting change for children and families. The role focuses on building rapport with community members, empowering them to voice their concerns, coordinating activities to enhance family educational environments, and maintaining accurate records of available supports. The Community Engagement Worker will also communicate emerging issues that may impact community safety and participation, and will be expected to work effectively in a team while participating in training to build skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Community Engagement Worker include:
  • Building rapport with community members to foster trust and open communication.
  • Empowering community members to express their voices and concerns regarding local issues.
  • Coordinating activities that bring families together to enhance their educational environment.
  • Communicating any emerging issues within the community that may affect safety, wellbeing, and participation.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records on available supports and services for families.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members and participating in training sessions to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Engaging with families from diverse backgrounds, including CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to ensure inclusivity and representation.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with community members and stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of local culture and community dynamics, particularly in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Experience working with families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Knowledge of local community services and resources available to families.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by young people and families experiencing disadvantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Community Engagement Worker position should possess a relevant qualification in social work, community development, education, or a related field. This educational background will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively engage with families and support their needs.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience working in community engagement, social services, or a related field. This experience should include direct interaction with families and community members, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Familiarity with educational initiatives and programs aimed at supporting children and families is also beneficial.

Languages:
While English is the mandatory language for this position, proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local community would be considered an asset. This could include languages spoken by CALD communities or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, which would enhance communication and engagement efforts.

This position is part-time (0.8 FTE) and is a maximum term role until December 31st, 202
  • The role offers an award rate salary (currently Level 2.1 - $34.58 per hour) along with full salary packaging benefits.
