Job Overview:
The Relief Worker position within UNRWA's Relief and Social Services Programme is a critical role that involves direct engagement with Palestine refugees to assess their needs and provide necessary assistance. The incumbent will report to the Area/Camp Relief and Social Services Officer and will work under the technical supervision of the Field Relief Services Officer. The primary functions of this role include conducting desk studies and home visits to evaluate refugees' eligibility for social transfer assistance, maintaining accurate records of assistance provided, and identifying refugees who may require additional support. The Relief Worker will also be involved in implementing surveys and studies to analyze socio-economic trends within the refugee community, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of services offered by UNRWA. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to enhancing the welfare of refugees through effective social work practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Relief Worker include: conducting desk studies and home visits to assess refugees' eligibility for social transfer assistance; collecting and analyzing socio-economic data; maintaining accurate records and documentation of assistance provided; identifying and referring refugees facing protection risks to appropriate supervisors; recommending eligibility for emergency assistance based on site assessments; ensuring timely delivery of approved assistance; participating in community surveys and studies; attending workshops and meetings to enhance professional skills; and performing any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. The incumbent must also be willing to travel within the field and may need to drive an Agency vehicle as part of their duties.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited institution in social work, sociology, psychology, guidance and counseling, social anthropology, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of social work principles and practices, as well as the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations. The position requires a commitment to the values and mission of UNRWA, including respect for human rights and diversity. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in social work, sociology, psychology, guidance and counseling, social anthropology, or other related fields. Experience:
Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience in providing social work, psycho-social support, or counseling within development or humanitarian programs. This experience can be gained through work in governmental, non-governmental, or international organizations. It is important for candidates to demonstrate their involvement in outside activities, such as employment, volunteer work, or other relevant engagements, as this will be considered during the evaluation process.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required, as these are the working languages of UNRWA. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages, as per the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory for this role.

Additional Notes:
This position is a daily paid assignment for a duration of up to three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The daily rate for this position is $27.12, and the salary may be subject to a reduced work schedule. Additional benefits include one day of annual leave and one day of sick leave for each completed month of service. The vacancy is open to both internal and external candidates, but only those residing in Syria and authorized to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible. UNRWA will not facilitate work permits, and candidates must have valid authorization to work in Syria.
