Job Overview: The School Principal position at UNRWA involves overseeing the educational services provided to students in the assigned school, ensuring that these services are inclusive and of high quality. The principal will lead professional development initiatives for staff, manage the delivery of educational programs, and engage with parents and the community to foster an effective learning environment. The role requires a commitment to the principles of inclusive education and the ability to create a safe and supportive atmosphere for both students and staff. The incumbent will report to the Area Education Officer and will be responsible for supervising various professional and general services staff. This position is critical in shaping the educational landscape for Palestine refugees and ensuring that all students have access to quality education.
Duties and Responsibilities: The principal will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:
Leading ongoing professional development for all school staff, evaluating training needs in line with the School Development Plan and UNRWA's educational priorities.
Managing the delivery of inclusive education services to all students, ensuring adherence to UNRWA policies.
Developing effective communication strategies to engage parents and the community in the educational process.
Overseeing school management tasks such as pupil registration, record keeping, budgeting, and resource utilization.
Creating and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment.
Implementing monitoring and evaluation practices to assess student performance and educational quality.
Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, which may include administrative tasks and community engagement activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited institution in a relevant educational field, along with at least one year of professional teacher training. Alternatively, a higher diploma or advanced degree in education may be accepted. Desirable qualifications include an advanced degree in a related subject and professional training relevant to educational leadership. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to educational theories and practices, as well as knowledge of UN values and UNRWA policies.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in an appropriate school-related subject from an accredited institution. Candidates must also have completed professional teacher training. An advanced degree or higher diploma in education is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: Candidates must have at least seven years of progressively responsible teaching experience. This experience should include involvement in various educational activities, such as teaching, training, or educational administration. Additionally, candidates are required to disclose any current or past affiliations with organizations that may impact their neutrality or independence in performing their duties for UNRWA.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French; however, for this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages, as outlined by the UN Language Framework.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term appointment for one year, including a one-year probation period, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The monthly basic salary for this position is USD 1,592.60, payable in Jordanian Dinar at the UN monthly exchange rate. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowances if applicable. The position is limited to candidates residing in the West Bank or Jerusalem, and the agency will not facilitate work permits for applicants.
