Job Overview:
The School Principal position at UNRWA involves overseeing the educational environment and ensuring the delivery of quality inclusive education services to all students. The incumbent will report to the Area Education Officer and will directly supervise professional and general services staff. The role requires leading professional development initiatives for staff, managing pupil registration and record-keeping, and ensuring effective communication with parents and the community. Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for leading ongoing professional development for all staff, evaluating training needs in line with the School Development Plan, and supporting school-based professional development initiatives. They will manage the delivery of inclusive education services, develop communication mechanisms to engage parents and the community, oversee pupil registration and record-keeping, and ensure appropriate budgeting and resource utilization. The principal will also maintain a safe and effective learning environment, implement monitoring and evaluation practices, and perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited educational institution in a relevant school-related subject, along with at least one year of professional teacher training. Alternatively, a higher diploma or advanced degree in education is acceptable. Desirable qualifications include an advanced degree in a related subject and professional training. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to education and leadership theories and practices, as well as knowledge of UN values and UNRWA policies.
Educational Background:
A university degree from an accredited educational institution in an appropriate school-related subject is required. Candidates should also have at least one year of professional teacher training or a higher diploma or advanced degree in education. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of the educational environment and for effectively leading a school.
Experience:
Candidates must have at least seven years of progressively satisfactory teaching experience. This experience should include involvement in various educational activities, such as teaching, training, and professional development. Additionally, candidates should indicate their current involvement in outside activities, which may include freelance consulting, public speaking, or voluntary work. This requirement ensures that candidates have a well-rounded background in education and related fields.
Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, but for this job opening, candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in both English and Arabic according to the UN Language Framework. This includes reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in both languages, ensuring effective communication within the UNRWA and with the community.
Additional Notes:
The appointment for this position is limited to the UNRWA - Programme Education - West Bank. It is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, including a one-year probation period, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is classified at Grade 15, with a monthly basic salary of USD 1,592.60, payable in Jordanian Dinar at the UN monthly exchange rate. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, sick leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave. This vacancy is open to internal candidates only, and preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates from underrepresented genders to promote gender parity.
