Job Overview:
The MEAL Intern position is a non-managerial role that supports the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) activities under the guidance of the MEAL Team Leader. The intern will primarily focus on mixed migration interventions in Lahj (Kharaz), contributing to quality monitoring processes and promoting accountability towards beneficiaries. Key functions include conducting monitoring visits, collecting data, documenting feedback, and facilitating awareness sessions. The intern will engage directly with beneficiaries to assess satisfaction and gather relevant findings, ensuring that the feedback is communicated effectively to the MEAL team. This role is crucial for enhancing the quality of services provided to displaced individuals and ensuring their voices are heard in the program implementation process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The MEAL Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting in-person data collection for Program Satisfaction Measures (PSMs) to assess beneficiary satisfaction; accompanying the program team during patrols and conducting regular field visits; delivering awareness sessions for newly arrived migrants; ensuring timely entry and export of satisfaction forms into the master database; conducting random field visits to assess the quality and quantity of meals provided; receiving and documenting beneficiaries' feedback and complaints; and performing other duties as assigned by the MEAL Team Leader or Manager. The intern will play a vital role in ensuring that feedback mechanisms are in place and that beneficiaries' concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and oral, and be fluent in Oromo, Amharic, Tigray, and Somali. The ability to write reports in English is essential, along with good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility, good listening skills, and a commitment to DRC's values and ethical standards. They should also be able to establish effective working relationships with staff and partners, and be willing to travel frequently to field sites.
Educational Background:
A high school certificate is required, with a preference for candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in fields such as IT, computer science, statistics, economics, monitoring and evaluation science, social science, or a related area. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the MEAL Intern position.
Experience:
While specific prior experience may not be required, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and competencies that align with the responsibilities of the role. Experience in data collection, monitoring, or working with displaced populations would be advantageous, as would any previous involvement in humanitarian or development work.
Languages:
Fluency in Oromo, Amharic, Tigray, and Somali is mandatory for this position. Good proficiency in English is also required, as well as a good command of Arabic. These language skills are essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and team members in the field.
Additional Notes:
The MEAL Intern position is offered on a contract basis for a duration of 4 months, with the possibility of extension for an additional 2 months. The start date is as soon as possible, and the duty station is in Lahj (Kharaz), Yemen, with frequent travel to the Aden office as needed. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s National Terms of Employment.
