Consultant to Assess Landscape Stakeholder Capacity Needs

Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in assessing the capacity needs of landscape stakeholders in Ethiopia, Peru, and Tunisia. This position requires a collaborative approach to conduct a comprehensive study that evaluates the existing capabilities and identifies gaps among stakeholders involved in landscape governance and management. The consultant will contribute to developing a robust assessment methodology, coordinate data collection efforts through key informant interviews, and analyze the collected data to draft a detailed report. The overarching goal is to enhance the capacity of stakeholders to engage effectively in landscape transformation processes, ensuring that governance and policy frameworks are inclusive and equitable. The consultant will work closely with an international and intercultural team, leveraging their expertise to facilitate stakeholder engagement and capacity building.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the collaborative study on landscape stakeholder capacity needs assessment in Ethiopia, Peru, and Tunisia.
• Contribute to the development of the assessment methodology that aligns with the objectives of the MFL Science Program.
• Coordinate the data collection process, ensuring that key informant interviews (KIIs) are conducted effectively.
• Conduct KIIs as necessary to gather qualitative insights from stakeholders.
• Analyze the data collected from the KIIs and synthesize findings into a comprehensive report.
• Deliver a methodology document for the landscape stakeholder capacity needs assessment.
• Provide qualitative data analysis and draft a report that outlines the findings and recommendations for enhancing stakeholder capacity.

Required Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, policy, management, or a related field from a recognized university.
• An interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary background is considered an asset.
• A minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience using participatory and qualitative research methodologies focused on sustainability or related environmental topics.
• Peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields will be advantageous.
• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience coordinating projects and research processes in the Global South, with participation in international conferences being a plus.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within an international and intercultural team, with experience in diverse Global South settings being highly valued.
• Experience working with the public sector and international organizations, particularly in agri-food research for development contexts, is strongly preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, policy, management, or a related field from a recognized institution. An interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary educational background is advantageous, as it aligns with the collaborative and integrative nature of the work involved in landscape governance and management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience in participatory and qualitative research methodologies, particularly in sustainability or environmentally related topics. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience coordinating projects and research processes in the Global South, showcasing their ability to navigate complex environments and engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.

Languages:
The consultant must have an excellent command of written and spoken English, Spanish, and French. Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to communicate with a broader range of stakeholders and facilitate inclusive engagement.

The consultancy is expected to last from August to December 2026, with a level of effort ranging from 22 to 28 days.
