Job Overview: The Health Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in overseeing the technical aspects, coordination, implementation, and quality assurance of health-related activities within the organization. This position is pivotal in ensuring the effective delivery of primary health care services, health systems strengthening interventions, community health activities, mental health services, and emergency health responses through supported Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs) and community structures. The coordinator will work closely with the Program Manager, managing health teams, supporting health facilities, and ensuring compliance with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) protocols and donor requirements. Additionally, the coordinator will temporarily take on program management responsibilities to ensure seamless project operations during a maternity leave period, emphasizing the importance of timely project start-up and compliance with donor expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health Program Coordinator is responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including overseeing the implementation of health sector interventions in alignment with project objectives and donor requirements. Key responsibilities include ensuring the timely and quality implementation of primary health care services, maternal and child health, reproductive health services, communicable disease management, non-communicable disease programming, mental health support, and emergency health responses. The coordinator will provide technical guidance to field teams, ensure integration of protection and accountability principles, and conduct regular assessments to identify service delivery gaps. Management of PHCCs and PSUs involves monitoring service quality, ensuring the availability of medical supplies, and addressing operational challenges. The coordinator will also oversee health information management, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting, and supervise community health activities through volunteers. Participation in health sector working groups and representation in technical discussions are also part of the role, along with team management and capacity building initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in public health, medicine, nursing, health management, or a related field. Essential qualifications include a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public health programming, with at least three years in a coordination or management role. Demonstrated experience in managing primary healthcare programs, supporting health facilities, and working in humanitarian settings is crucial. Familiarity with institutional donor-funded health projects is also required. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, medicine, nursing, or health management. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of health programming and management in diverse contexts, particularly in humanitarian settings.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public health programming, with at least three years in a supervisory or management capacity. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing primary healthcare programs and experience in humanitarian and emergency response settings. Familiarity with health projects funded by institutional donors is also necessary, highlighting the importance of understanding compliance and reporting requirements in such contexts.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with diverse stakeholders is essential. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with various communities and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and involves temporary program management responsibilities during the Health Program Manager’s maternity leave.
