Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Specialist will be placed with UNICEF in New Delhi, specifically supporting the YuWaah initiative, which aims to enhance opportunities for young people aged 10 to 2
  • This role involves designing, coordinating, and operationalizing Yutopia, a Public-Private-Youth Collective aimed at promoting youth centrality across various sectors. The Specialist will facilitate collaboration among ministries, private sector partners, civil society organizations, and youth networks, ensuring that young people's perspectives are integrated into policies and initiatives. The position requires planning and delivering alliance convenings, partner meetings, and knowledge-sharing forums, as well as developing high-quality documentation to strengthen youth-centric programs. The Specialist will also engage with the Young People’s Action Team, enabling youth participation in UNICEF's programs and decision-making processes, thereby ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks, including supporting the implementation of youth engagement priorities for FY 2026–2027, coordinating activities for the Young People’s Action Team, and facilitating mentorship opportunities for young people. Responsibilities also include drafting background notes and stakeholder engagement plans, setting standards for youth organizations, amplifying activities related to the Yutopia alliance, and supporting ongoing communications and social media efforts. The Specialist is expected to contribute to the development of a youth engagement strategy, a campaign strategy for International Youth Day, and a social media strategy document, as well as produce creative media outputs and knowledge products that consolidate youth perspectives and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment, and a commitment to the values and ethical standards of the UN. The role requires discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to manage information confidentially. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning, as well as effective organizational and problem-solving skills. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is essential, along with the flexibility to adapt to changing work environments and conditions.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in social sciences, international development, education, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of youth engagement and development issues, as well as familiarity with UNICEF's mission and objectives. Additional training or certifications related to youth development, public policy, or program management would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in youth engagement, program coordination, or a related field. Experience working with public and private sector organizations, civil society, and youth networks is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and knowledge of youth-centric policies and practices will be considered an asset. The ability to demonstrate successful project management and collaboration with diverse stakeholders is crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Proficiency in Hindi or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and youth communities. Knowledge of additional languages may enhance the candidate's profile but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA) of INR 70,158.41, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment and relocation costs if applicable.
