Job Overview:
The Family Support Specialist - DFV position is a full-time role (38 hours per week, Monday to Friday) based in Roma, Queensland, with a maximum-term contract until 30th June 2027, with the possibility of extension. The primary function of this role is to provide immediate support to women and children affected by domestic and family violence. The specialist will conduct risk assessments, develop strong networks and referral pathways, and collect and record information for accountability and reporting purposes. The position is integral to the DFV team, which aims to create lasting change for children and families impacted by violence. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in domestic and family violence to make a positive impact in the community, ensuring that the voices of children and their caregivers are heard and prioritized in service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Family Support Specialist - DFV include:
  • Providing immediate and effective support to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence.
  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments to identify and address the needs of clients.
  • Developing and maintaining strong networks and referral pathways to facilitate access to additional support services.
  • Collecting, recording, and analyzing information for the purposes of accountability, evaluation, and reporting to ensure the effectiveness of services provided.
  • Advocating for the rights and needs of children and families affected by domestic and family violence.
  • Collaborating with other professionals and organizations to enhance service delivery and outcomes for clients.
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices and emerging research in the field of domestic and family violence.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant Human Services qualification.
  • Significant experience working in a similar service, particularly with women, children, and young people who have experienced domestic and family violence.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices, professional standards, and relevant research in the field of domestic and family violence.
  • A demonstrated understanding of how cultural contexts influence practice approaches in supporting diverse communities.
  • A current valid driver’s license is also required for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant qualification in Human Services. This educational background is essential to ensure that the specialist has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively support clients impacted by domestic and family violence.

Experience:
The role requires significant experience in working with women, children, and young people who have been affected by domestic and family violence.
