Job Overview:
The Knowledge Management Specialist is responsible for coordinating knowledge management strategies within the Volunteer Advisory Services Section (VASS) of UNV. This role involves enhancing access and visibility of UNV's work by generating and sharing credible knowledge. The specialist will manage essential platforms, including the UNV Knowledge Portal, which serves as a comprehensive resource for volunteerism-related data and publications. The position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop a Knowledge Management Strategy and Work Plan, ensuring alignment with UNV's strategic priorities. The specialist will also engage in outreach and knowledge exchange initiatives, contributing to the promotion of volunteerism and its integration into development policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the coordination of knowledge management initiatives and advocacy efforts, including liaising with stakeholders for content contributions to the Knowledge Portal.
  • Develop and implement a Knowledge Management Strategy and Work Plan in collaboration with relevant units.
  • Review and improve current knowledge management systems and tools, measuring the effectiveness of UNV's knowledge work.
  • Contribute to outreach and knowledge exchange through the UNV Knowledge Portal and online events.
  • Identify opportunities for policy-oriented launches of research findings and engage in key knowledge events.
  • Prepare speeches, presentations, and technical papers as needed.
  • Plan and implement external knowledge brokering and outreach events.
  • Provide helpdesk support to regional offices and field units, ensuring optimal use of knowledge tools.
  • Develop a system for tracking references and citations for knowledge products. 1
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Information Science, Knowledge Management, research, or communications is required.
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the mentioned areas, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A research degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience with a master's degree or 7 years with a bachelor's degree in research and knowledge management, including experience in applying research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated skills in research and knowledge management are essential, along with experience in development programming related to SDGs.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as Information Science, Knowledge Management, research, or communications. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, will be considered. A research degree is advantageous for applicants.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a master's degree or 7 years for those with a bachelor's degree. This experience should include a strong background in research and knowledge management, with demonstrated proficiency in applying research methodologies. Experience in development programming related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is preferred, along with familiarity with volunteerism in a development context and experience within the UN system or other international organizations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, working knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, or Russian, is considered a strong asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
