Job Overview:
The Climate Adaptation Expert will be a key player in shaping climate adaptation and resilience strategies within the mobility sector. This role involves providing expert guidance to specialists in the Mobility Department on both lending and advisory operations. The expert will contribute to the review and implementation of the EIB's Adaptation Strategy, support project-level due diligence, and collaborate with fellow Climate Experts to develop impactful solutions. The position requires regular office presence at the EIB's headquarters in Luxembourg, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and collaboration in a highly international environment. The expert will have the autonomy to act as a connector between technical experts and management, ensuring that climate adaptation considerations are integrated into the Bank's operations. This role also offers opportunities for external representation at key events, enhancing the EIB's visibility in climate adaptation discussions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Adaptation Expert will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

• Collaborating with Heads of Division and Mobility experts to provide trusted advice on adaptation and resilience matters.
• Supporting due diligence for operations exposed to high physical climate risks, including reviewing climate risk assessments.
• Contributing to policy and advisory work, particularly the 2026 review of the EIB’s Adaptation Strategy.
• Offering practical expertise on climate-adapted transport infrastructure planning and design.
• Ensuring projects align with environmental, climate, and social standards throughout the project cycle.
• Engaging with various departments and working groups to implement the Bank’s climate risk assessment system effectively.
• Coordinating consultancy support as needed and managing external expertise to meet business needs.
• Building and maintaining a knowledge base on climate adaptation, sharing insights through workshops and tutorials.
• Developing partnerships to advance the EIB’s climate adaptation initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum bachelor level) in a relevant field such as engineering or economics, with additional qualifications in environmental or climate science preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required, combining project preparation or appraisal experience with practical knowledge of integrating climate resilience into projects. Candidates should demonstrate effective coordination skills across multiple departments and experience in managing complex projects that require collaboration. Excellent knowledge of English is essential, and a good command of French is preferred, with knowledge of other EU languages considered an advantage.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a university degree in a relevant subject, such as engineering or economics. Additional qualifications related to environmental or climate science are highly desirable, as they will enhance the candidate's ability to contribute effectively to the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience, which should include project preparation or appraisal in areas related to climate resilience and adaptation. Candidates should have a proven track record of coordinating across departments and managing complex projects that necessitate broad cooperation and integration of expertise.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required. Knowledge of other EU languages would be a distinct advantage, as it can facilitate communication within the diverse environment of the EIB. Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
