Job Overview: The Protection Officer - GBV & Protection Case Management Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and implementing protection case management activities in accordance with international standards and best practices. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of GBV and PCM case management services provided by the team. The officer will work closely with the Protection Team Leader to strengthen the technical capacity of the case management team, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to established standards. The role involves managing individual protection cases, developing relationships with local agencies, and promoting staff well-being and professional development. The officer will also facilitate training and capacity-building initiatives for staff and volunteers involved in protection case management, ensuring that all interventions uphold the safety and dignity of survivors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including providing ongoing technical guidance and mentorship to Protection Assistant-GBV caseworkers and Protection Assistant-PCM caseworkers. This includes ensuring adherence to GBV case management principles and survivor-centered approaches. The officer will implement general protection case management activities, support case workers during various stages of case management processes, and conduct individual supervision sessions to review case progress and provide feedback. Additionally, the officer will facilitate bi-weekly team meetings, perform thorough reviews of case files, conduct capacity assessments, and develop monthly supervision plans. The role also involves monitoring data entry quality, providing direct supervision and mentoring, and delivering training sessions to enhance staff competencies. The officer will manage complex cases requiring advanced intervention and coordinate with other agencies to ensure comprehensive support for beneficiaries.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience in PCM/CP/GBV case management supervision, with a strong preference for experience in the project locations. A proven record of community engagement and consultation is essential, along with a technical understanding of core protection concepts and strategies. Candidates should demonstrate strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as integrity and a commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data collection tools are also required.
Educational Background: A university degree in social work, sociology, psychology, social science, law, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution is required for this position. Additional certifications or licenses related to protection case management or GBV prevention and response would be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in protection case management, with a focus on supervision and direct implementation of activities. Field experience in emergency contexts is highly desirable, as is experience in engaging with vulnerable populations and understanding their specific needs based on protection risks and diversity analysis.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Proficiency in Tigrigna is also required, as it is essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and local stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 5 months, classified as a national contract. The role is based in the field offices located in Adigrat, Mai-Tsebri, and Sheraro, Ethiopia. The expected start date for this position is August 1, 202
