Job Overview: As a Software Engineering Expert within the Climate-neutral Aviation Support Service, you will be instrumental in advancing EUROCONTROL's sustainability initiatives. Your primary responsibilities will include the design, prototyping, integration, and development of digital services and platforms that support aviation sustainability objectives. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including end-users and external suppliers, to gather requirements and translate operational needs into effective technical solutions. Your role will also involve ensuring the operational reliability and maintainability of these platforms while contributing to their continuous improvement. This position requires a strong focus on developing scalable, cloud-native software solutions that align with modern engineering practices and automation approaches, ultimately supporting EUROCONTROL's digital transformation goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain Aviation Sustainability platforms and digital services, ensuring they meet operational reliability and scalability requirements.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions that align with Aviation Sustainability objectives.
Implement and automate testing approaches to ensure software quality and stability, including validation and non-regression testing.
Investigate complex technical issues and contribute to the optimization and continuous improvement of digital services and analytical platforms.
Develop and maintain technical documentation to support operational continuity and knowledge sharing.
Carry out additional tasks as required to fulfill the main purpose of the job.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following educational and professional experience requirements:
Completion of third-level studies in a relevant domain (e.g., Software Engineering, Computer Science) at EQF level 7, followed by at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, cloud-native systems, or digital platform development.
Completion of third-level studies in a relevant domain at EQF level 6, followed by at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. Candidates should also have experience in developing scalable full-stack solutions, covering both front-end and back-end technologies, with a strong emphasis on cloud-native software development. Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline management and cloud deployments is essential.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, specifically completion of third-level studies in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Candidates must meet the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) level requirements, either level 6 or level 7, depending on their years of professional experience. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of software engineering and cloud-native systems.
Experience: Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 to 4 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, cloud-native systems, or digital platform development, depending on their educational qualifications. Experience in end-to-end software development activities, including design, development, testing, deployment, and operational monitoring, is essential. Familiarity with Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems or other mission-critical environments is considered an asset.
Languages: Proficiency in English at level C1 is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the Agency. Additionally, candidates must be able to become a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. This bilingual requirement reflects the multicultural environment of EUROCONTROL and the need for effective communication across diverse teams.
Additional Notes: The position is offered on a full-time basis with a duration of 5 years, subject to renewal or conversion under specific conditions. The selected candidate will be required to complete a probationary period of nine months before being established in the post. The appointment will be made in accordance with the provisions of the Staff regulations governing officials of the EUROCONTROL Agency.
