Job Overview:
The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Gender & Human Rights Unit of UNFPA in Uganda, specifically focusing on the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Programme. This internship, lasting between 3 to 6 months, will involve working closely with the Gender Programme Specialist and the UNFPA Programme Coordinator for Gender and Youth. The intern will engage in programme analysis and strategic advisory on gender issues, gender-based violence, and harmful practices. A structured work plan will be established at the beginning of the internship, outlining expected results and learning opportunities. Regular progress meetings will ensure that the intern receives guidance and support, enhancing their skills and understanding of UNFPA’s mission and operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: conducting research and analyzing documents related to gender issues and UNFPA's mandate; developing background documents and concept notes for initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to gender-based violence; supporting the documentation and dissemination of lessons learned from GBV interventions; participating in monitoring and evaluation activities by reviewing implementing partners' reports; drafting communication materials on gender-based violence; assisting with administrative tasks such as correspondence; organizing meetings, seminars, and workshops; attending relevant meetings and preparing minutes; staying updated on developments in assigned areas; and performing any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be eligible for the internship. Applicants should be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, in the final year of a bachelor's degree, or have recently graduated with a relevant degree. Additionally, candidates should have some experience working with development agencies, particularly in areas related to gender issues, women's rights, and gender-based violence. Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work harmoniously with diverse teams, are essential. Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other UN languages is advantageous.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this internship include being enrolled in a postgraduate degree program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Recent graduates who meet these criteria and can start the internship within one year of graduation are also eligible. Alternatively, candidates enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program can undertake the internship as part of their training.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some experience working with development agencies, which can include volunteer work. Experience in gender issues, women's rights, protection, and gender-based violence is particularly relevant and beneficial for this role. The intern should demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.

Languages:
Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for this internship. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered a valuable asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is designed to last between 3 to 6 months, providing a structured learning experience within the UNFPA framework. Interns will receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses, provided they are not financially supported by another institution. It is essential for interns to have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, as UNFPA does not provide this coverage.
