Job Overview: The UN VolunteerProject Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the UNFPA's project aimed at enhancing access to maternal and neonatal health services and combating gender-based violence through the digitalization of healthcare systems in Guinea. This position involves planning and implementing project activities, ensuring quality assurance, and monitoring progress. The Project Officer will work closely with the UNFPA and SOIK monitoring and evaluation teams to develop a comprehensive project monitoring and evaluation plan. The role requires the collection and analysis of technical and financial data, preparation of project reports, and participation in stakeholder meetings. The Project Officer will contribute to the overall goal of improving access to essential sexual and reproductive health services and building the capacity of healthcare providers in Guinea.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer Project Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Planning and Implementation: Supporting the development of quarterly work plans for project activities, contributing to the planning and execution of interventions, and ensuring quality control and monitoring of project activities.
Technical and Financial Monitoring: Collaborating with the monitoring and evaluation team to create a project monitoring and evaluation plan, collecting and analyzing relevant data, preparing semi-annual and annual project reports, and participating in project-related meetings.
Reporting: Assisting in the preparation of progress reports and the final report for submission to the Japanese Government, ensuring adherence to UNFPA monitoring and evaluation guidelines.
Capacity Building: Facilitating the training of midwives and healthcare providers on gender-based violence prevention and response, as well as the use of digitalization kits.
Knowledge Management: Enhancing coordination and communication through the development of project reports and sharing lessons learned.
AGD Perspective: Ensuring that age, gender, and diversity considerations are integrated into all project activities and documented appropriately.
Final Reporting: Drafting a final report on volunteering achievements for data management in emergency situations during the assignment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to the values of the United Nations. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their approach to work, as well as creativity in problem-solving. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of professionalism and self-management, with the ability to plan and organize effectively. Experience in project management, particularly in the context of health or humanitarian projects, is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in using digital tools for data collection and analysis.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a solid understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues, as well as experience working in a multicultural environment.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of health or humanitarian projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the official language of Guinea. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Guinea would also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This is a 12-month UN Volunteer assignment based in Guinea, specifically in Conakry and its surrounding regions. The position is full-time, and candidates should be prepared to work in a challenging environment that may involve travel to remote areas. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that aim to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations in Guinea. Volunteers will receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, and additional support may be provided for relocation and travel costs.
