Job Overview: The Information Management Specialist will be recruited through UNICEF Ecuador and will work under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer in Ecuador. This role is crucial in strengthening information management capacity within the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ecuador. The Specialist will contribute to more effective humanitarian coordination, evidence-based decision-making, and timely information sharing among humanitarian partners. The position involves close collaboration with the Humanitarian Affairs Officer and will support the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Country Team in coordinating key humanitarian mechanisms, including the National Humanitarian Forum and the Inter-Sectoral Working Group. The assignment aims to enhance the efficiency, coherence, and quality of humanitarian response in Ecuador, with strategic and technical support from the OCHA Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC).
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Information Management Specialist include:
Data Management: Designing, developing, and managing the content of databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools; ensuring the quality of high-value humanitarian data for accuracy, consistency, and comparability; consolidating operational information regularly to support analysis.
Data Analysis: Evaluating and analyzing location-specific datasets using statistical techniques; participating in the development and revision of data standards.
Assessment Analysis: Supporting assessment and needs analysis activities, including humanitarian needs overviews and multi-cluster initial rapid assessments; managing platforms and tools for data collection and analysis.
Geographic Information System (GIS) and Mapping: Maintaining spatial baseline and operational datasets; producing and updating high-quality map products; ensuring spatial data is documented and accessible to humanitarian partners.
Public Information Management: Managing content on relevant web platforms; ensuring content is current and follows metadata standards; collaborating with external counterparts on related web platforms.
Visualization: Producing and updating information products such as reports, charts, and infographics; developing advocacy materials.
Coordination, Partnerships, and Capacity Building: Supporting Humanitarian Program Cycle activities; establishing a network of collaborators for humanitarian information exchange; training partners in information management tools.
Performing any other related tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Information Management Specialist position include a strong understanding of data management principles, proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools, and experience with GIS and mapping software. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A commitment to the principles of humanitarian action and the mission of UNICEF is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates for the Information Management Specialist position should have a degree in a relevant field such as information management, data science, statistics, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in information management, data analysis, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Ecuador. Proficiency in English is also required, and knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for securing their own housing and other essentials for living. National UN Volunteers are covered by an insurance plan against intentional damage. International Specialist UN Volunteers will receive benefits including international health insurance with 100% coverage (including dental care) for the volunteer and eligible dependents, life and permanent disability insurance, a monthly living allowance of $2,455.13 to cover essential needs, and access to training opportunities through the UNV e-campus.
