Job Overview: The Program Manager at PSI will play a crucial role in overseeing the operational, technical, and programmatic excellence of a global project or a portfolio of network members and country projects. This position is integral to PSI’s Delivery team, which is a proactive and agile cross-functional group focused on providing support to the global network. The Program Manager will ensure that program/project objectives are met with high standards of quality and timeliness, in compliance with donor requirements. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including network members, country project teams, technical and service departments, and subcontractors. The Program Manager will also contribute to the development of technical documents and presentations for both internal and external audiences, embodying PSI’s core values of Measurement, Pragmatism, Honesty, Trust, Collaboration, and Commitment. The position may require 10-25% international travel, reflecting the global nature of the work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Manager will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring the smooth operational and programmatic implementation of a portfolio of global projects or network members/countries. This includes overseeing workplans, deliverables, and subaward management in coordination with team members and global technical and service departments. The role also involves providing financial management support, including budget preparation and tracking, project spending, and financial report reviews. The Program Manager will assist or lead new business development opportunities, including strategy development and proposal writing. Additionally, the role includes leading recruitment, training, and performance management of staff, providing specialized training in project and program management best practices, and contributing to departmental initiatives. The incumbent may also be asked to perform other duties as necessary, as PSI reserves the right to revise job profiles based on changing responsibilities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field, with a Master's Degree (or international equivalent) preferred. A minimum of 7 years of related experience is required, with an equivalent combination of education and experience being acceptable. At least 1 year of supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of international development, international donor priorities, and health areas is essential, particularly with organizations such as FCDO, USAID, CDC, KFW, World Bank, and UN agencies. Strong written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills are necessary, along with proficiency in relevant languages per country and program portfolio, with French being preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate strong skills in Excel, budget management, and financial acumen, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree or its international equivalent. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of program management and international development.
Experience: The position requires at least 7 years of related experience in program management or a similar field. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in international development and managing complex projects, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred. This level of experience is essential for ensuring the successful execution of programmatic and operational goals.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with additional language skills being advantageous. French is preferred, particularly for roles that involve projects in Francophone countries or with French-speaking stakeholders. The ability to communicate effectively across cultures is crucial for this position.
Additional Notes: This position is remote eligible, subject to manager approval, and is available in approved US states or Nairobi, Kenya. PSI will not provide visa sponsorship for candidates applying from the United States. For those applying to be based in Nairobi, the right to live and work in Kenya will be facilitated by PSI, but relocation assistance will not be provided.
