Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will support the Operations Support and Logistics (OSL) Egyptian Corridor Team within the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE). This role is critical in ensuring the effective delivery of administrative, procurement, supply chain, logistics, and operational support services for WHO’s emergency response operations, particularly in relation to the ongoing situation in Gaza. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the OSL Lead in Cairo, collaborating closely with the Supply Officer and National Officer in Al Arish. The position requires a proactive approach to managing logistics and supply chain operations, ensuring that essential medical supplies are delivered efficiently and effectively. The volunteer will also be involved in various aspects of warehouse management, inventory tracking, and procurement facilitation, contributing to the overall mission of WHO in addressing public health challenges in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
Supporting the reception, transportation, storage, and delivery of essential medical and health supplies from Egypt to Gaza, including tracking stock managed by partners.
Assisting in the management and monitoring of WHO warehouses in Cairo and Al Arish, ensuring proper inventory control and operational readiness.
Maintaining operational coordination with partners such as the Egyptian Red Crescent and Logistics Cluster for cross-border logistics operations.
Liaising with WHO teams to support logistics and administrative processes.
Facilitating procurement processes by coordinating with local suppliers and preparing Requests for Price Estimates (RPEs).
Supporting the development of Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) for operational support services.
Assisting with local supplier engagement and ensuring timely service delivery.
Supporting financial processes, including invoice review and processing.
Maintaining operational documentation and preparing reports to facilitate decision-making. 1
Performing other logistics tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency in logistics and supply chain management is essential, along with experience in procurement processes. The ideal candidate should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to producing results. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for liaising with various stakeholders, including local suppliers and WHO teams. Cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness are also important, given the diverse environment in which WHO operates.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, public health, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or procurement would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health systems and emergency response operations, particularly in the context of humanitarian assistance.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in logistics, supply chain management, or administrative support is required. Experience working in emergency response settings or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with WHO operations and procedures would be an asset, as well as experience in cross-border logistics and procurement processes.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders. Additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the operational context.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time UN Volunteer assignment based in Cairo, Egypt, with potential travel to Al Arish. The volunteer will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance of approximately USD 2457, along with an entry lump-sum of USD 3500 and an exit lump-sum upon completion of the contract. Medical and life insurance coverage is provided, including for up to three dependents. The volunteer is responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials, but the provided allowance is intended to cover these costs. The living conditions in Cairo are favorable, with access to various services and amenities.
